They’re painting my classroom! I was so pumped and willing to take whatever colour (the walls are terrible) BUT THEN they brought me a whole book of colour swatches to choose from and now I have can’t choose! Any favourite colours (dulux paint) for a jr high classroom (going for peaceful vibes)?

I’ve been hyper focusing on a spreadsheet for approximately (checks time) 10 hours now. A hyperfocus doesn’t stop just because I’m exhausted or because it’s bedtime so I’m in bed WIDE AWAKE. I really thought I’d only spend an afternoon on it. Anyway. It’s pretty cool.

A reminder to parents (only because I’m seeing it in my older kids) summer to school transitions are tough. The schedule and expectation and social change is a big change. Kids need grace and a safe place to decompress after school.

For the first time ever I was the mom of a player on (& manager of) a winning sports team. We made it to semis & lost 6 shots into a penalty shootout. We won our 3rd place game with no subs playing shorthanded. The top 2 also ended in a pen shootout. It’s wild that pen shots dictated the top 3.

I’d think it’s our house but it is 100% the outside air. He does better when the windows are closed and when he stays inside. Air quality seems fine. Pollen is low according to some weather apps. What could be causing the asthma?

I’m so curious: is anyone else in Halifax dealing with asthma over these past few weeks? My husband only has asthma issues for a few weeks each summer. This season it’s getting so bad.

Oh my word - the beginning of my summer was riddled with lip sunburns! And in one case, because the angle of the sun and my hat or whatever, it was half of my upper lip!?! I have lip spf but every one I try makes mouth taste awful. Still, the lip burns suck.

Its 3am and I can’t sleep but luckily I have to wake up with my alarm tomorrow because no one remembered to take out the garbage tonight and tomorrow is garbage day. Of course, I remembered about the garbage at 2am.

Nothing discourages me more about the state of how we act towards one another in society like a Costco line up that goes to the back of the store. We’re civilized, we line up, but heaven forbid we make space for people to actually shop the aisles.

I think I slept 14 hours last night. I still have so much to do but was SO TIRED I let myself rest. I went to bed early, and my dog let us skip our morning walk (how did she know?) so I slept until 11:30am. I’m still feeling tired. If you want to know what June as a junior high teacher is like.

Sitting here a few minutes ago watching the World Cup and talking with my husband and all of a sudden I stopped because the smell of the air changed completely with the pre-rain storm smell wafting through the window. It was intense and lovely.

For me it has to be bic gelocity (quick dry I think?). They write so smooth and thin and have lots of colour options (which I need to keep it interesting for me between assignments).

I am obsessed with flair pens (favourite) for my planner and used to love paper mate inkjoys (but the ink flow can be sporadic so I’ve stopped using them so much) but neither of them are my grading pens anymore.

Sometimes on a whole teaching can feel discouraging and frustrating. But then I go out and get pizza and I happen to see some of those same students who yell my name from across the parking lot to say hi and it reminds me that I’m pretty lucky to be doing what I’m doing.

I’m getting over Covid and for the first time ever I have completely lost my sense of smell and taste. Like I can’t even get a whiff of a scent even when my nose is clear. Weirdly though, for a split second when blowing my nose, I get a very strong taste of whatever I’ve eaten most recently.
