Okay, well, if it has consciousness, it has rights, and furthermore having rights is a binary state, so it has them with or without permission from some other entity, and for the love of all that is holy somebody should have consulted a philosophy department before, like, now

I don't understand why they don't just schedule their tee times earlier if they are so concerned about running out of daylight on any given day instead of messing with everyone else's biological clocks and circadian rhythms.

The parallel I can draw here is being upset with the newscaster for saying "OJ Simpson was acquitted today by a jury in California" rather than explaining the entire case. "Whoa! OJ Simpson? Seriously?!? What was he accused of? When did this happen? You need to give me more details!"

A person called to complain that I did not explain the entire story of a local situation during a 3-minute newscast. This story would literally take about 30 minutes just to sketch out with the barebones facts from the very beginning.

I am annoyed by the enormotruck currently parked in front of my house, but I am consoled by the knowledge that it will take the owner around $170 to fill the gas tank

Seriously, I was one of the 4 people on Earth who bought a Zune and adored how it sounded. Maybe I'll dig mine out and give it a whirl. Note: I am a radio professional. It is literally my job to judge how things sound, and I am telling you: it punched far, far above its weight w/r/t sound quality

I admittedly have the luxury of being a public media editor whose guiding professional mandate has always been "we're public media. We're probably not ever going to have it *first*, so let's focus on having it *best*. It can't hurt to check one more thing."

We had a murder case here a few years ago that involved police and a violent chase and all, and my initial response was "there has to be more going on here than just 'drugged up weirdo goes ape', run a quick search of public records to see if there's anything lurking" and lo and behold, there was

I mean, I understand the time constraint argument, and I'm glad there is more detail now, it just seems like the initial reporting was, uh, extremely not-thorough and some editor should have been saying "this seems hinky. Are you sure there is not more going on here?"

Laura Lorson @lauralorson.net · 29/09/2026
"Did you read it, or did you skim it?" "Are you sure about the date of the separation agreement?" "Did you look at the details of the abuse allegations?" "Did you find records of any police reports involving this couple?" "Was there a restraining order? Did you read the details?"

Speaking as a professional news editor, I would say the initial reporting on the McKinsey murder left out several extremely important pieces of pertinent information. So, um, hire seasoned news editors, is what I am saying. Editors say things like "did you look up the custodial dispute paperwork?"

I only knew the Ella Langley song because there was so much talk about it online, and I figured I'd better interrupt my constant stream of prog and jazz so I'd know what it was. Some of its chord progressions really remind me of the song Tequila Sunrise. So it goes.

I really liked how during the pandemic, chain stores started letting you buy online and then go pick up the order at a local brick-and-mortar. But now, literally every time I have tried this (other than grocery stores), it is more or less impossible. Good thinking, consultants. Stellar work.

Man, stores that have been bought by private equity invariably have websites that are complete dumpster fires. Too bad, giant craft chain store that I rarely patronize, you won't let me check out so I guess I don't really need what I was going to buy. I suppose the biz plan was bankruptcy all along.
