For more information about the Friday night massacre at CDC, I wrote up an analysis of who got terminated and what that means for public health. Grateful to @saveamericamvmt.bsky.social for supporting and amplifying. We are in really terrible trouble. rasmussenretorts.substack.com/p/the-death-...

New START is the last remaining arms control agreement between the US and Russia. Extending it would keep sensible limits on nuclear weapons while further reductions and limits are negotiated. The US should reciprocate and get to work on a follow up to New START.

Two weeks ago, on the 80th anniversary of the Trinity test, Nobel Laureates, nuclear experts, and community leaders discussed the urgency of avoiding nuclear war. I was glad to have been there. The resulting declaration and recommendations, endorsed by 120 Laureates: nobelassembly.org/declaration/

Eighty years is a lifetime and we’re losing the most compelling messengers about nuclear war. Frank Von Hippel also reminded me that because it’s been a lifetime since nuclear weapons were used that people think it can’t happen again. But disarming is as urgent as ever. apnews.com/article/japa...

My UCS colleague has written a deeply researched and very timely report on the US push to ramp up production of new plutonium "pits," the cores of nuclear weapons. It covers the science, policy, and strategic issues, as well as the impacts of these programs on local communities. Please circulate!

The #Signalgate debacle affirms our take when Hegseth was first nominated: "Given the enormity of the challenges facing the next [defense] secretary, the US deserves someone with the experience, expertise, and judgment to deal with them wisely." Hegseth has clearly failed on all three fronts.
