This is my sculptural poem ‘decayed’ which was exhibited at the Words from the Wild show at Royal Holloway last year. The bark was recovered from a local restoration area in Bushy Park and belonged to one of the several conker trees that were recently cut down.

For old skin say skin
suit, say skin tight, say
oil skin, skinny
dip. Say peeled skin,
thin-skinned. Say skin
flint, skin that can't be
turned to show a better

backs-of-your-hands like
exposed sandstone.
Say skin deep, say skin
