Had a great time last week in Malmo, attending the FraxNet conference and learning about the latest efforts to safeguard the future of ash in Europe and North America, with some wonderful field trips to trials and seed orchards in Sweden and Denmark that will hopefully provide resilient future ash!

Been busy visiting woodlands over the last few weeks with @dariogala.bsky.social for our #NERC funded project on the evolutionary response to ash dieback disease 🌳🪾🧬 Sadly many adult trees are continuing to decline, but some juveniles we tagged four years ago are still healthy and growing well 😀

Delighted that this paper from my brilliant former PhD student Elvira Hernandez-Gutierrez is now published in @newphyt.bsky.social 😀 Elvira built a model to predict novel pest-host interactions between Agrilus beetles and oak trees 🪲🌳🪾 we hope the approach will be useful in other systems too!

Gabriele's paper is out in PNAS! He found a large number of genes with repeated sweeps in multiple plant species. Most interestingly: they tend to be peripheral in co-expression networks (low pleiotropy), consistent with mig-sel theory!! @gabnocgenomics.bsky.social www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
