Two strikes against carbon capture. First, even if it works, it's more expensive than switching to clean renewables. And second, it doesn't work at scale. Those pushing carbon capture as a panacea for Canada's fossil fuel cartel are greenwashing. #EnergyTransition #CleanEnergy

Words fail to capture how chaotic things are at the evacuation centers in Winnipeg. No one is in charge. Everything is happening ad hoc. This is all that’s there for toothbrushes and shampoo/soap. It’s 2 people who just randomly showed up to help that are sorting things and managing this table.

One of the most eerie things about the city filling with wildfire smoke is that there's nobody outside. Nobody is on their balcony. No rooftop patios are playing music. No cars are joyriding. Nobody is out walking. It's a lovely evening temperature. But we are bathed in smoke. So nobody is out.
A smoke forecast map focused on central Alberta but including most of BC, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, as well.

A large thick plume of smoke (pm 2.5 with concentrations greater than 60 micrometers per cubic meter of air) stretches over approximately 25% of Alberta. Nearly all of Alberta and Saskatchewan are covered in smoke plumes of varying density.

Hugely dense clouds of smoke are forming in northern Saskatchewan, where there are a multitude of fires. BC also has a multitude of fires however smoke plumes remain relatively lighter and localized (not everywhere there's a dense plume northwest of Prince George and a few denser small ones in the mountainous regions.)

Hardly any fires in Alberta in this map view. The large swathe of smoke originates from NW Alberta/NE BC, NWT and Saskatchewan.
