Richard Laugesen @laugesen.com.au · 01/01/2025Thanks for all your efforts on The Last Drop @timsmedley.bsky.social. It's a fantastic overview of the water emergency and even as a hydrologist I really learnt a lot. Anything you would change in the book following your recent work on degrowth? 020
Richard Laugesen @laugesen.com.au · 17/12/2024Wow I love supercomputers! Just finished a run in 4 hours that would have taken 18 days on my laptop. We have come a long way since these were a thing 💾 030

Richard Laugesen @laugesen.com.au · 07/12/2024It's going to be another difficult summer for the reef. Hard to recover from the last marine heatwave when almost each spring sets a new record 120

Richard Laugesen @laugesen.com.au · 30/11/2024The program basically unfollows everyone unless their description contains one of the keywords I give it, or I've engaged with them in some way. The API makes it really easy, this #ATProtocol is pretty impressive. 000
Richard Laugesen @laugesen.com.au · 30/11/2024Just unfollowed 502 accounts, please dont take it personally. I got a bit excited clicking on all those starter packs and my feed stopped reflected what I wanted it to be about. Clicking is a bit of a drag so I wrote a little program to talk to the API and do it for me, thanks @bsky.app! 110
Richard Laugesen @laugesen.com.au · 30/11/2024Looks like that could be it. Richard Laugesen @laugesen.com.au · 30/11/2024Hopefully bio-thermal wouldn't have that scale of impact! Seems a bit short sighted if that's the case since they have so much geothermal capacity 100
Richard Laugesen @laugesen.com.au · 29/11/2024Indonesia sure stands out. I wonder what's driving that level of deforestation. Is it for timber exports or new mines? 110

Richard Laugesen @laugesen.com.au · 24/11/2024Yeah its really different to Sydney planning. This suburb in particular is interesting because its managed by the developers (Terry Snow's airport group) rather than ACT directly. I think it has led to some good urban design and the future looks bright. Yeah, I'm not a fan of the astro turf either 110
Richard Laugesen @laugesen.com.au · 24/11/2024The developers have been (surprisingly?) pretty receptive around the neighborhood. We managed to get a bunch of native trees protected during the DA phase, including Bluetts block on the hill. I'll shoot them a message about adding some shade clothes 120
Richard Laugesen @laugesen.com.au · 24/11/2024Hey, that's our local playground! Agree about the lack of shade. Some good trees planted but they will take years 120

Richard Laugesen @laugesen.com.au · 23/11/2024Completely agree. I've dropped back from full-time BOM and research to teach high school science part-time for this reason. Richard Laugesen @laugesen.com.au · 23/11/2024Thanks, I just went down that rabbit hole based on your recommendation.
