Sandra Powers is a Peruvian-American writer, director, and editor working at the intersection of animation, opera, and theater. Her debut animated short, Bestias de la Muerte, is a mythological exploration of a teenage girl's journey through grief, inspired by her own personal story. A graduate of CalArts' Film program, Sandra made her stage directorial debut with The Great Soviet Bucket, produced by Beth Morrison Projects and funded by the National Performance Network. She has since created immersive theater works including BARDO, a performative experience hailed by the Los Angeles Times as "full of wonder" (CAP UCLA, 2024; PROTOTYPE NYC,
2025), as well as the touring, Grammy®-nominated opera Black Lodge, presented at Opera Philadelphia, Malmö Opera, and Folkoperan.
