Think how Uber/Lyft used to be cheaper than traditional taxis. Once they dismantled that model, they jacked their prices way up. In California, the state passed a law in 2019 to expand labor protections to gig workers, but some of the delivery apps, along with ride-share companies and others, pushed a ballot proposition Prop22 that would carve themselves out of that law. They spent $ 184 million on lobbying and won.
