Epic Games fucking themselves over again has started another wave of people claiming Steam isn't a monopoly. Insane how hard it is for people to grasp that two things can be true.

Fell asleep in the airport church because I thought no one ever used these things. Got woken up by a preacher asking "Who do you worship?" because they were about to do a multi-religion service and I groggily said "My wife" before walking out all embarrassed.

Like, they still make a truckload off that game and it's worth the bare-minimum maintenance Valve's other live service titles get. Active development on more content is almost certainly a wet dream from TF2 players but Deadlock fans are similarly delusional to say TF2 doesn't deserve bug fixes lmao

Seeing Deadlock and TF2 discourse the past week or two has really ingrained in me the average Valve fan can't admit that both TF2 will likely never see major updates again but that it's reasonable to ask for bug fixes and balance changes if Valve's gonna milk 'em 3x a year for loot crate cash.

Hell, I bonded with a fuckin' hermit crab. One of the managers at the aquarium I worked at said his best pet was a Madagascar roach and I fully believe him. If you put in the work and both parties are willing it'll happen.

There's definitely a general sentiment that only dogs and cats (sometimes only dogs in extreme cases) are capable of forming bonds with humans and it's kinda annoying. I've seen people forge deeper bonds with bees than I ever thought possible. I'm sure every animal is capable of it.

Like, idunno dude I think pretty much any biologist/chemist is higher up the chain here, to say nothing of the specialties beyond those. I wonder if these guys think salary is a function of intelligence rather than like... mostly being just how lucrative the profession is.

Wondering how many other people have noticed the growing category of "programmer who thinks they're uniquely more intelligent than people of any other profession and is very annoying about it".

Dunno if you guys have seen it but the Navier-Stokes equation stuff going on is very funny. You're telling me you were on the cusp of solving a $1 million math problem so you put your data into an LLM and Sam Altman stole it? That's like putting your money in a bank founded by thieves lmao

As someone who isn't really into rap this may not be surprising but I've definitely been confusing Lil Jon and Lil Wayne this entire time. I thought Lil Wayne was the visionary behind Get Low but I was very, very wrong.

Ah my mistake, it was Kamiya. Sugimura credits that to the development team (lead by Kamiya). He also said that the zapping system and tyrants were added completely on Kamiya's insistence. The best parts of that game are from Kamiya. shmuplations.com/residentevil2/

What you're sourcing here is the creators not being enthused with how the game was translated and presented to western markets while not realizing it was translated and presented that way because its roots are cheesy horror B-movie comedies so it was the natural interpretation by localizers lmao
010
Λtlas @las-shark.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
Mikami is pretty much the sole reason the first two games are as good as they are. The second game specifically would've been set in a modern police station instead of a renovated library had he not made them start from scratch 70% through development.

I don't think you understand what "approaching it at surface level" means when analyzing/interpreting a work and are instead thinking that what I mean is knowing trivia about it.

The comedy in most B-movies forms from the gap between how serious the characters and/or creators are and how it's received. He wanted to make an outwardly comedic variant rather than the latent comedy because he knows horror and comedy are closely linked. www.gamesradar.com/making-of-re...

Which is why I find it pretty funny you think the game is straight horror when it's flaunting giant snakes, spiders, and the aforementioned shark facility. It's reveling in its cheesiness but you're approaching it at surface level.

Λtlas @las-shark.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
I'm aware of the origin of the term, though I would probably not invoke Mikami if I were you given he wanted to inject way more comedy into RE1. But now that we've circled back the obvious inspiration for RE comes from B-movies. Specifically, the types that often get called horror comedies.

Λtlas @las-shark.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
So wait, do you believe genre is determined by the creators or by the reception of those who consume it?
100
Λtlas @las-shark.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
So if the creators said they didn't intend for it to be a comedy, it ceases to be comedic?

What makes Sharknado a comedy? What factors determine it being a comedy to you?
100
Λtlas @las-shark.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
I suppose for some people there is no level of absurdity before it turns to comedy and they'll treat even something like Sharknado as a pure horror film.
100
Λtlas @las-shark.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
And why did you take it seriously? Given, of course, that it's a deeply absurd thing to put below a mansion. Comically absurd, even.

Λtlas @las-shark.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
You're telling me you not only took the underground zombie shark facility seriously but that you think that's the *intended* reading?
100
Λtlas @las-shark.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
It pretty straightforwardly is, but I guess if you're bad at reading intent you could think it isn't.

Λtlas @las-shark.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
I've seen so many people say that B-movies are meant to be taken seriously just because the characters in the films take it seriously. It's driving me insane.

Λtlas @las-shark.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
The dumbest gamers on the planet are trying to act like Resident Evil was always straight horror rather than horror comedy so they can pre-emptively tear apart Cregger's film. RE might actually have the worst fan base out of all the non-PvP games out there.

Some people just want a remaster and don't know it.

Λtlas @las-shark.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
Even with RE I get it. The series leaned towards 3rd person action the better the tech got so it makes sense to apply that to the remakes if you want a cohesive series. Some people legit wanted tank controls back though like why LOL

Λtlas @las-shark.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
Yeah it's just too much detail. Sure you should update the models, textures, etc. but it's just a fair bit too much. I don't think that what I'm seeing here is gonna reel in anyone that wouldn't have already bought it because Zelda.

Λtlas @las-shark.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
Not a fan either thankfully. Truthfully I've seen more Zelda fans crashing out over the removal of fixed camera angles which is like... man it's a game released after 2010 did you think they were gonna keep that? Be real for a second.

It's about how Sisyphus would react had he known it was rigged against him in ways he could never know. Coyote's victory is in getting to indulge himself in "The Chase" without the parasitic ACME corporation intervening. He loves "The Task", and failing at it on his own terms is his reward. 12/12

Λtlas @las-shark.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
Just as Coyote's story isn't about Roadrunner, it's about "The Chase". Coyote vs. ACME is all about how a corporation exploited that love for "The Chase" for profit via the application of Project Sisyphus, and how the enchantment was, eventually, lifted from "The Boulder". 11/12
130
Λtlas @las-shark.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I know that might be unsatisfying, but when you break down all the actors and forces at play I don't believe there's anything that cleanly translates to "The Boulder", nor do I think there needs to be. Sisyphus' story isn't about "The Boulder", it's about "The Task". 10/12
120
Λtlas @las-shark.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
Even if ACME weren't present Coyote would still be in the same loop, but without extra suffering layered on top. He'd still have to move "The Boulder", but it wouldn't be rigged against him. "The Boulder" may not be ACME Products, but simply nothing. Just a vector for the task to manifest. 9/12
