I know you weren’t calling for the list to be reported. I think I associated you with CJ popping up, and contesting that CJ was “kind” and shouldn’t be on the list. (CJ admitted to liking hate posts) But you may be unaffiliated w CJ I’ll not bother you further! Mostly describing the situation.

@ s0nfgib.bsky.social is out here sending unsolicited DMs to people, writing “it’s your perogative” then complaining about getting blocked, inventing false reasons for the block @moderation.bsky.app: a BRIGADE is going on which is why a list to protect against that behavior is important Boundaries!

@moderation.bsky.app hey! Sherry @ justiceforall.bsky.social is committing a brigade at the moment - multiple posts asking to report, multiple posts making false claims, after being blocked for safety concerns. Upset that she’s on a moderation list, a list for people who exceed boundaries.

If you’re currently ON my account, because someone pushed you to brigade me, you realize that is THE BEHAVIOR listed, right? It has nothing to do with your personal efforts to make the world a better place - it’s toxic behavior to brigade others, to ask moots to go evade a block! Learn boundaries

Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
Just for transparency sake there is now a brigade occurring that was egged on by CJ, the person who was out there calling themselves a “kind v gan” So temporarily, the list IS on BLOCK - they cannot access me for the next 2 days while they actively brigade and say “nobgoblin”, then “who, us??? 🥺”
Sherry with a Why says “I agree some Vs can be abrasive, but no more abrasive than this ridiculous slanderous list”Sherry with a why then asks everyone to report this list “this is unadulterated hate towards v gans and is as baseless as it is biased”Gigafox calls people “what a petty nobgoblin” and sherry thanks that comment with “thank you G. That list is so clearly biased towards anyone who speaks up for the victims, no matter how cordially.

Gigafox responds “that’s essentially what I reported, a biased personal grievance instrumentalized as an attack against innocent individuals of a maligned ethical minority”

“There literally is no reason to consume animals or animal products” starvation? lack of other options within the system, for people w/o options? I get your stance as a belief, but it rings as classist if you cannot think of any reason for an individual to do so. You’ve never starved, have you?

If anemia + similar health issues were addressed, nobody would be saying “for my health” Everyone saying “for my health” - or nearly everyone - is someone with a medical condition So dismissing them is ableism. Their treatment may be bunk, but the root cause is they do have a health PROBLEM unsolved
020
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
If you don’t start at the root causes, you won’t change end effect They found pregnant teens impregnated by serial adults and used birth certificate tracking and punitive age-of-consent laws, and were able to remove the offenders so they didn’t commit serial crimes. Halved teen pregnancy rates!

Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
Reviving the analogy of abstinence education and abortion reduction if you’re saying “don’t have abortions, don’t have abortions” but not looking at “oh, this is a teen pregnant from an adult serial abuser” “this is someone w/o contraception IUD access” “this person doesn’t have health education”
100
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
Veganism isn’t going to work if it doesn’t work on its inherent ableism problem There has to be solutions (AND respect & empathy) for treating anemia, vitamin deficiencies, respecting people with allergies to major ingredients, arfid, poverty if you don’t work backward, from the root health issue

Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
couldn’t fit it into 1 tweet, but there’s an extreme nausea condition that’s under researched, and underfunded. So because one thing doesn’t get treated (pregnant people dehydrated and at organ failure, from too much emesis), they turn to something that is disapproved of, to help (w eed). Anemia>🐓
200
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
Which is why you could address the anemia crisis, because a lot of the people are moving back to eating some limited amounts of meat as an (attempted) treatment for iron deficiency or other issue. It’s like people who smoke w eed while pregnant, NOT healthy, but they have an underlying condition.

Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
That’s essentially religious though - “why would someone believe in God for 10 yrs, then turn their back on their faith” - it literally doesn’t make sense It’s a religious moral argument you’re making. Many people are former vegans, it happens, they exist People existing in their lives makes sense

Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
This one, by a licensed pharmacist, was using and weaponing mental health language to send someone to a psychiatrist, for eating a meal. “There aren’t health reasons” would have been sufficient (belief), and not hate. But telling strangers to go to a psychiatrist for that? The ableism jumps out.
“Long cool woman in a white coat” writes

This is bizarre. You did not start eating dead animals "for health reasons," there aren't any. I would recommend a good psychiatrist, maybe they can figure out this sudden obsession with violence against animals.

Yeah, but it sparked a lot of hate over 1 drumstick. I had no intention of making a list until it was the “discourse of the day ™️”, and the comments read like religious zealotry and abuse The post liked was akin to the “you were never a Christian” comments, that some denominations do to others.

Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
Meanwhile I had to sift past people telling me to die… and ppl being ableist about medical conditions, like denying they exist and cause issues of access to certain foods that I simply cannot eat. That wasn’t helpful, that wasn’t veganism in its truest form (being positive) The friendly mentors, 👍

The vegans that got me were the ones who meal planned, had a convo about my questions/hangups, and also recommended me their favorite brands. Some brands weren’t accessible to me, yet they’d work great for other people. Some brands did work for me, and that completely cut out my dairy intake.

Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
Yes, vegans do get a LOT of pushback from a society that is majority non-vegan. The reactionary hate is not helping the cause, though Being a beacon of happy veganism, great recipes, tasty dishes, healthy on the environment, easy to access, and it’ll come natural that people want to follow in that
120
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
making it hit people’s interest is the way to go: Vegan chili (cheaper than buying meat, easier to cook!) - also tastes better This recipe is lower in cholesterol! etc while not harming animals IS important, people’s motivations differ, and any reduction is good! “This is EASIER to cook than a 🦃”
110
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
“I don’t think the repliers comment was a good strategy” - yes, it was a hate comment, directed at someone for their meal. and they can post hate comments on this app, and other people can add hate comments to a list, so they don’t have to see things written in hate. Everyone has their choices.
100
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
Like think about how much could come from “skip the turkey recipe this November! Pick pizza instead” so *how many* entire birds aren’t cooked Make it snazzy, make it easy, and work on incremental wins. When people change habits, they start to change more and more habits because of initial change.

You could respond similarly to how I’m responding now? Just as people shouldn’t be hating on you, for your lifestyle decisions and diet, you also need to not hate on other people for their diet? and instead highlight actions that need or could use harm reduction done
200
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
You can discuss how those food companies ARE the problem, like how the cattle industry IS a source of animal harm. Here’s some thoughts on how to communicate more effectively with others (calling them rapists isn’t it) and make structural changes, that will do MORE overall good than hate rhetoric
100
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
and you’re personally aware of if she paid for the drumstick? it wasn’t free at the community local event, or at an extended family dinner, or leftovers? Discussing how farms & food producers do harm animals - via insemination and encaged enclosures - is different language than ‘you pay for rape’
400
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
It’s quite similar to abortion discussions where every side might want the number of abortions to go DOWN*, via contraception and planning and prevention of non-consensual abuse, etc You can discuss lowering abortion rates without “baby killer” rhetoric. That rhetoric is inflammatory, and hurtful.

Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
You could say “another once-a-vegan 🙄” which is how they represent *themselves I get it, like “vegetarian but eats hot dogs” - not sure they know what the word means there But there’s no evidence within the post liked that shows she *isn’t* a former vegan added to “rape/torture/murder” wording
300
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
Impassioned is not hate Deciding to reclassify someone you don’t know from “former vegan” to never a vegan is presumptuous, and designed to harm them. If you call anyone who eats 1 chicken drumstick a rapist, as that tweet did, you’re free to do so, and people are free to disassociate from you.
110
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
I agree with you on that: people should be vetting block lists! I strive to have good methodology, and the person who just NOW came to me about being a “kind vegan” and how they shouldn’t be on the list, they agreed they did like a hate post and as a result just posted about me on their page. So !
100
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
The list is probably about 117 people long, have you counted yet? This was one of the hate tweets from which the list was built off of.

I feel you!

Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
Adding this here for transparency, and so you can weigh in, also. Your thoughts? Accounts can be generally “kind accounts”, but if they’re liking this rhetoric telling people they were not former vegans, because you can’t become unvegan once vegan - that’s the issue at hand here.
010
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
You liked this post, which aims to override and dictate the (past) identity of other people, whom you do not know. What would you like me to do to remedy this - if someone eats a meal, should they be told they were never formerly a vegan, and “it’s okay to rape, torture, and murder”?
Taylor Lorenz @taylorlorenz.bsky.social • 1mo
I was vegan quite literally my entire life until last summer when I started eating chicken and fish for health reasons. I had my first drumstick a week ago and now all I can think of is drumsticks and how badly I want to eat 100 of them. It's 1am and I'm up thinking abt chicken drumsticks

@sOnOfgib.bsky.social
Then you were never vegan. Veganism is a moral standpoint. Not a diet. You don't learn to respect animals and then just randomly decide it's ok to start paying for their rate, torture, and murder all over again.

Veganism is not only a diet but it is understood as a diet by most of the public and that's why I refer to it that way. With all due respect I have been vegan my entire life and

You can name an account, and I’ll show you why they got added. You’re making strong claims about me, but haven’t provided the name of the account you checked up on, so I can show you my methodology.

Also I have it available where these accounts aren’t blocked by me - outside of the dangerous 3 or so, like the one today. There have been accounts that conversed with me and I took them off the list. If you have that account you want me to look at, I can verify what they liked and/or take them off

Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
I just added plsdoit! Straylite I couldn’t find any hate. They border the line, and can be uncivil in tone, people can feel free to block them for that - their questioning you in replies, but I’m not seeing hate Just strong political opinion, not venturing that step further into hating on others

Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
The list was curated off the Taylor Laurenz post about where she mentioned being a ‘former vegan’, and were based on the about 6 worst posts there, of people feeling comfortable hating on someone for 1) eating a meal and 2) saying they were a former vegan. Posters and likers of the hate comments.
100
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
They liked posts that were specific vegan hate posts There were 2 non-vegans in the list, I know of, that were liking vegan hate posts (one was a vegetarian liking a “you were never a vegan!” post) People aren’t logical, they’ll like posts, despite the hypocrisy of not being vegan themselves.
100
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
here was the list of accounts acting that way, from the last round of this It mirrors religious zealotry where everyone must agree to their religion, they speak in absolutes rather than harm reduction They feel moral superiority for a diet, yet face no consequences for any person-to-person abuses
120
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
here’s a blocklist made from the last round of this someone who was longtime former vegan ate a meal and they told her to die I shared how I moved off of dairy (already didn’t eat beef), and got randomly called a cow-killer 🤨 for telling a story about going OFF of dairy mind their own business!!
020
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
here’s the blocklist of them, if you want it. it does not include vegans who are just being vegan it only includes the vegans who yell at other people, and think they can abuse others in the name of veganism (ableism, “hope you die”, accusations.) called “cow killer”, and I don’t eat beef?
2114
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
btw here’s a list of the ones doing that behavior I have no issue with vegans, and if they were doing positive PR for themselves that’d be amazing for them. The “I hope you die” and writing ableism, and making accusations and wishing harm on people, not okay.
120
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 18/01/2025
here’s a block list formulated of the people who decided that their effort to be kind to all people and animals somehow meant be vicious to others, in the chase for superiority. [vegans can express their views and reasons ✅ , but not act like religious zealots with a love for abusing others]
010
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 17/01/2025
here’s a list from the prior round I’ve seen one today who’s buried in 19 qrts and added that account, and if I see others of those haters-who-use-veganism-as-their-superiority-complex I’ll add them.
020
Laura @larrylist.bsky.social · 17/01/2025
here’s a block list from the previous round of them being the character of the day This list is not for “people who are 🌱” and kind (who cares if they eat veggies in peace ✌️), but it’s accounts who use that wild rhetoric and hate others in the name of superiority.
