fair, the rising intonation at the end of the sentence thing is i think mostly associated with the valley girl accent in the US (and mostly associated with the australian accent in the UK lol)

the midwest has a lot of competitive seats as usual and also it's a very swingy region so not surprising. upper new england and alaska are also very elastic. the south is the part that's unusual in how much we're talking about them but after all they are 1/3 of the US population.

weirdly within my family the five year age gap between me and my sister means that her baseline understanding of consumption and income is much higher than me (and her baseline of how many hours my parents work much lower) which makes her a lot more optimistic in general than me.
