Happy Batman Day - that time of year that coincides with official birthdays of the DC characters Supergirl and Batgirl - so naturally we celebrate Batman.

I wrote a lengthy origin/background sheet for each character a year or two back - so all I really did was drop breadcrumbs, what with the word limit on the story. But there's definitely a fully developed bit there yet to be revealed.

No bother at all! It's fun to talk about this stuff.

The plan was always for her to have one that was damaged. You can see it in her earliest character design.

just spreading some canon Star Wars lore

a photo of the surface of a diner table with a mostly finished plate of French toast, and a crayon drawing of Captain Ithano holding a plate of pancakes. It reads “CAPTAIN SIDON ITHANO - the CRIMSON CORSAIR, the RED RAIDER, the BLOOD BUCCANEER, the SILENT SCOURGE of the
LOST CLUSTERS SAYS..

"EAT AT

A new Crimson Corsair story is out today in Star Wars Insider # 234. Tensions rise and old wounds reopen as the Corsairs crew unravels… the Sinster Secret of the Binary Star! I used some Nick Brokenshire art from our 2020 story here - sadly no new art - just prose this time. :(

Anyway… here’s my annual reposting of Dylan, me and Eric and Disneyland. For decades I spent almost every day talking or hanging out or creating comics or debating storytelling with either one or both of these guys. September 10th has taken too much from me.

Here's a couple other bits of random Eric art.

And the inevitable Carl Cthulhu soft vinyl toy (with light up eyes of madness).

Landry Q. Walker @landrywalker.bsky.social · 10/09/2025

On a separate note - here's the very first image of Carl Cthulhu from Little Gloomy. Carl was full Eric's creation - though I gave him his speech patterns.

Eric also drew the very first Green Day flyer for their show at Contra Costa College in... 1990, I think? I don't have a copy of that one anymore, unfortunately.

Landry Q. Walker @landrywalker.bsky.social · 10/09/2025

Here's some rarer Eric Jones art. When Green Day was recording American Idiot, they flew Eric to the studio to work on possible album art.

Yeah, unfortunately IDW dropped the license right after and so the issue was never collected. :(

The first one was released as a short story/ebook. a.co/d/eKvK2qY The second one was a short backup comic in Star Wars Adventures 7 volume 2 (by IDW).

Galaxy of Heroes' realistic interpretation of Kix from SW Adventures by Thomas Guillory. Original design by Nick Brokenshire and Eric Jones. There's some minor inconsistencies in the belt and helmet between the key art and model, but overall this is a real nice interpretation.

The restrictions would apply if a corporation were to buckle under pressure from the government, and we know Trump has called for Colbert's cancellation publicly. The only way to know if a violation occurred here would be through legal action - but it's not an unrealistic assumption.

I saw the new Superman. I’d say it’s about equitable with most every Superman movie. Some stuff they got right, some they did not. Worth watching though.

I don't know where people got this idea that the goal - even with books aimed at kids - is to make the reader feel "good". The only goal is to make the reader FEEL. And sometimes that includes feeling bad.

An unfinished bit of work of Eric’s where we get a hint of what Batgirl would have looked like in Cosmic Adventures. Truthfully, if we had continued, Robin was much more likely to appear. Batgirl is lower on my list of “want to write” characters.

Today would be Eric Jones 54th birthday. I was born 3 months after him. Our tradition for decades - two things: We would send each other copies of Stephen King’s Cell and I would mock him for being so much older than me. I’m now two years older than he ever was. Point goes to him. Well played.

I just heard Peter David died. I first met him in an elevator at Wondercon in 1992. I was carrying a TV and he made a terrible joke that I was stealing it. It was through his articles that I learned how to navigate the business. I'm terribly sad that I will not get to speak with him again.

I'm reminded of a medieval war comic I wrote, and the castles had to look like structures of rough gray stone. But castles when they were new were often whitewashed, plastered over, painted bright colors - often yellow or pink. Historically accurate castles will be called our for looking wrong.

I've fought with myself over that exact one a lot.

Because I have seen this idea challenged in other spaces, I think it is worthwhile to once again state unequivocally - Supergirl is Cosmic Adventures is intended to code queer. Her conflict with Lena Luthor is meant to mirror indoctrinated homophobia. The message is metaphorical with intent.

091

Landry Q. Walker @landrywalker.bsky.social · 03/04/2025

The story will be unchanged. It is very slightly possible there will be a short unreleased teaser story and some new previously unreleased Supergirl illustrations of Eric's in the book - I provided this all to the editor. But there is no guarantee of any of it being included.

I think so, yes. We had a Casper story printed that was okay, but lacked the madness of Little Dot.

010

Landry Q. Walker @landrywalker.bsky.social · 26/03/2025

I believe the cover text was going to read something like… “In this issue… everyone becomes dots!! Dots! Dots!! DOTS!!” There was a scene where an anthropomorphic square and triangle were cowering under a rock, terrified of Dot’s wrath.

Today is my first day alive again after a week of violent illness brought on by exhaustion. Turns out not sleeping is bad? During my downtime I have been pulling together a bunch of unused art off Eric's iPad. There's about 50 pages mostly complete of Pepper Page 2: Shadow of Eclipsa.

At one point, Eric, myself, and colorist Pannel Vaughn were part of a Harvey Comics revamp that crashed and burned. I was very happy with the Little Dot story we did, where she went on a destructive, manic rampage in the Land of Shapes.
