Anyway I think if you're the type of person to look at a writer going "I have left this intentionally ambiguous so that you can craft your own theories" and interpret that as "I have set up a Ready Player One-style riddle where there is ONE true answer and it's up to YOU to find it!!!" you're boring

It's one thing if you think Abigail is most likely to be the wizard's daughter (I think this was probably also CA's intent at the start, though I think he has maybe changed his mind) but it's another thing if you're like, NO, she HAS to be it because of this tiny scrap of pixels in the guide book

What makes it worse is that 99% of the time their "obvious, definitive canon conclusion" ignores several other key pieces of canon information, but that doesn't matter, because [static noises] Stardew Valley is the worst for this bc so much of the game is ambiguous

I try to be tolerant but I just have no respect for people who look at intentionally ambiguous storytelling and go "NO, actually, obviously there is ONE definitive concrete canonical answer and I will entertain NOTHING else" WHY DO YOU THINK IT WAS LEFT AMBIGUOUS THEN CRAIG!!!!!

I genuinely think a vital skill for anyone trying to tell stories, in any medium, is how to sit through something you aren't necessarily enjoying. You can learn a lot from something you didn't like, and if you only finish things that are already to your tastes, your influences become very narrow

You need to be consuming both written narratives AND visual narratives that aren't just comics. Please. I think both of these are uniquely important. I do think it's also vital to read other comics but that can't be all you consume. You need to ACTIVELY watch other mediums for your full potential!!

LRT if you are making comics then I think it is imperative that you read (any genre, fiction non fiction, etc) and nothing can replace this, but I also think it's important to watch things outside your genre. Play games you wouldn't otherwise. Watch old/overseas movies, documentaries, TV shows, etc

the only non-negotiable for writing is you have to read. doesn't matter if you're writing comics, prose, screenplays. read. read books, articles, scripts, comics. fiction and non-fiction. read lots of 'em and never stop reading.

Thank you so much! It's been interesting trying to figure out how to convey darkness for characters who don't need much light to see... for an audience of people who still do, HAHA. And I appreciate you noticing the books 😔📖

THANK YOU I wanted the tone switch to feel as strong as it must've been for Heliotrope... when you commit to something and then realise you're getting kind of overwhelmed but don't want to back down... but she has a good support network 😔💐

YES... that stillness is what I wanted to capture... the expectation that someone would be coming home and then they never did... the "moving out" parallel was in the back of my mind as a sign of how Heliotrope has had to grow up too fast 😔

Silver & Iron: Part Four Pages 13/33

Heliotrope and Sorrel stand on the threshold of her old house looking into a small but quaint hallway. An ornate light fixture hangs from the ceiling, coats and shoes line the nearest wall, mail is collecting on the floor by the mail slot, and a wilted flower drops its petals from a vase on a chest of drawers. It's dark out, but even darker inside, so the two vampires cast a long shadow, backlit save for their piercing red eyes. They pause there a moment, their faces in shadows. Sorrel, gravely: "May I come in?" Heliotrope, emotionless: "Yeah." As Sorrel speaks, different panels show rooms that can be seen through archways in the hall. "It's best not to turn the lights on. Your neighbours might get suspicious. You shouldn't have much trouble seeing." More dead house plants in a small carpeted living room. A coffee table by an old fireplace has a half-finished jigsaw puzzle with three distinct piles of pieces and more games underneath. A dining room has a hutch, bookshelf, and still cuckoo clock. On the table is a school backpack, its contents spilling out, a water bottle stood next to it. Sorrel: "Was there a room you wanted to start with?" A sofa shaped for one of the house's small bay windows, its blinds not drawn, open books scattered on its cushions. "Or we could just put a bag in each one and see what strikes you."

Sorrel puts a hand on Heliotrope's shoulder. "Poppet?" Heliotrope jumps and turns to him; she says nothing, but the curve of her brow and her wide eyes communicate that she may feel overwhelmed by the reality of her situation. Sorrel pauses before he continues, his face passive, non-judgemental. "We have all night. Or we could come back another time, if you'd like." Heliotrope turns to face forward again and frowns. "My bedroom was upstairs," she says, taking the suitcases up an L-shaped staircase at the end of the short hall. "Lead the way," Sorrel says, adjusting his own bags. Heliotrope is not reflected in the hall mirror.
