When I first read about this new policy I thought it was applying to those on National Super. So.. why not.

Happy second iRex ferry arrival week! This is the week the second rail enabled bigger ferry would have arrived in Aotearoa, six months after the first. We currently will not receive any new ferries until 2029, and at present have one ferry working and will go 4 years without a rail enabled ferry.

Because these dark patterns are a key part of social media that has undermined society. The more we can go after these companies the better, so I will celebrate every win. Ideally there are far more strict laws around content, privacy, dark patterns etc, with enforcement and massive penalties.

We could be building out electricity production that connects to H2 plants, and get rid of methane gas for industry, including replacing the blast furnaces at NZ Steel, providing input for fertiliser or even making green methanol without emission. The actually helps NZ’s economy, rather than others

Lance Wiggs @lancewiggs.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
That’s only true if there is absolutely zero fossil fuel electrcity generation. What is likely, and incentivised, to happen is preferred cheap prices for a high percentage of our electricity market, and continued high prices for everyone else for longer.

We flipped to total ren as some people were in Kiwisaver and others not. Allows each to choose. We then flipped back again when the Kiwisaver percentages went up, else we would see people’s actual take home pay go down. That is not acceptable with COL.

They require the company to spend more money on people, yes. Hits hardest on retail & service sectors as high employment, low margin sectors.* The Greens proposed increase in company tax has lower impact. *better policies required to support these/tilt economy to higher margin areas.

Pretty good. Top tax rate cuts in far too low though at $160k, which is very low versus housing market. US/Au income tax rates are more aggressive but at higher levels.

Yes on a macro level there are much bigger levers to pull, and it is frustrating watching how many are set in the wrong position. But for the companies receiving funds it’s transformational, especially versus the previous program where migrant investors could just buy bonds.

Trickle down is when you give it to the rich and they deign to spend some (and save the rest, as it’s all zombie economic theory, hat is killed but will not die) The AIP growth category money needs to end up at companies, and if it doesn’t then funds get delisted.

Yes. LP structure is easy to invest into. Tax issues are really hard for certain investors. E.g. US tax law really doesn’t like offshore investing.

Lance Wiggs @lancewiggs.bsky.social · 24/05/2026
The AIP program was initiated by Labour. The current government announced changes so it all paused for months, then released. The current settings can, and should, still evolve - 10% allocation to VC/direct investment is far too small as a share. A lot appears to be transactional.
100
Lance Wiggs @lancewiggs.bsky.social · 24/05/2026
The AIP people who have invested in our 2 VC funds all appear to be genuine, with values that attract them to NZ, and they have strong affinity with our founders, when they meet. We’re a bit different perhaps. AIP has been the single best thing that government has done to promote hi-tech growth.
120
Lance Wiggs @lancewiggs.bsky.social · 24/05/2026
It works if the money goes to long term growth. The 10% of the money that’s come to VC is getting invested into companies that use it to grow, mainly by hiring, and they are growing larger and sustainable business. We’ve invested $18m so far, with $10m being contracted soon. It’s been magic.

It would be good to have them, and some of their ideas about policy, in parliament, but with the current MMP settings it’s right to be mad about every wasted vote going their way.
