If you’re looking for something different - I strongly recommend joining the Monocle world. I’ve never seen a publication (outside @lawfaremedia.org) create that level of community before. Thanks to Anthony Perez for the shots.

Grateful and clearly terrified to close out today’s The House on CBC talking about “The Information Animal” - take all the shiny people as bait to sit through to the end: www.cbc.ca/listen/live-...

By the way @antti1.bsky.social - I also suggested this pairing offline. But @benjaminwittes.lawfaremedia.org then said we had to have new books, so not sure if it will fly. Maybe with enough support from you and @alanderminna.bsky.social - ad a return of @jussitoivanen.bsky.social it’ll fly!

It’s Canada Day, and I’d like it to stay that way. While sovereignty is top of mind, maintaining that independence rests in an independent info ecosystem free from external controls or manipulation. That starts with understanding what the Canadian info ecosystem consists of from top to bottom.

Some people weren’t born to be influencers. As proof, a special one time only video of me unboxing. If you promise to buy the book, I’ll never subject you to this pain again. But seriously, @hurstpublishers.bsky.social sent my first official copies of The Information Animal!!

The Information Animal is more about articulating a vision for how we might understand information ecosystems to get ahead of problems, rather than an exploration of specific issues we currently face within them. Thanks to @hurstpublishers.bsky.social and @carnegieendowment.org for making it real!

Revolutions happen when the expectations of elites are perceived to no longer be met and they turn on the rulers blaming them for the shortcoming. This paragraph from Jack A. Goldstone’s “Revolutions” feels a little too close to home today.

In Ushuaia there is a statue reenacting the raising of the flag on the islands, and a section at the local museum dedicated to them.

On trips I always look for old propaganda. Usually it’s posters. Argentina was stumping me until my husband pointed out that the propaganda was all around us - and it was. The idea that the Malvinas are Argentine is so pervasive - it’s in murals, statues, museums, souvenirs, and advertising.
