These days the text chain I’ve had with my best friends from middle school for 20+ years has evolved into a complex medical diagnoses text chain & I don’t know what to say except keep your loved ones close, the silly jokes you traded in your 20s and 30s pay off in earnest love and hope in your 40s

When I was younger, I was always pleasant. Now in my 40s, I’m still pleasant but occasionally burn bridges. I’ve burned 1-2 this year as a natural consequence of being a little firmer and more honest. I think this is probably the right amount for right now.
