I made a filter to send them to a folder. Even for one student, they come in multiples of dozens.

cc is also coupling coefficient, a common unit of electrical synapse strength. I've had to correct ml back to cc on more than a few paper proofs.

I have a lot of chronic illnesses. Things I’ve dealt with my whole life or for decades. Chronic pain that affects me daily. Nothing compares to the intensity and impact of epilepsy, and how it affects my life and my thoughts every single day.

They’ve told me my language might get worse, hopefully temporarily. Hopefully. But what if it messes with my memory? What if I forget people in my life? What if it affects my emotions? Changes who I am?

Every seizure damages my brain further. I’m currently facing another week long hospital stay followed by brain surgery. Stop and think about that. Think about doctors cutting into your brain and killing a part of if. Think about how you might stress about what you’ll lose.

It’s never out of my mind. I had my first seizure 3 years ago, at age 43. No reason, I just did. I already have brain damage from it. I find words much slower. I misplace words, stick the wrong word in a sentence. My executive functioning, already bad from adhd, is now worse.

I might not talk about it a lot, but I think about epilepsy all day, every day. Was that headache twinge the start? What about that tingling in my arms? What if I have a seizure right now? Or now? Or driving, walking, at the store, slicing vegetables?

My lab just opened at Lehigh University - we study the origins, mechanisms, and impacts of the rapid evolution of the chromosome segregation machinery. I'm looking for 2 team members (postdoc and lab tech) who are passionate about evolution and cell division! See the opportunities at dudkalab.me.

I got offered millions, a lab, cutting-edge equipment, and any collaborator I wanted during Bush 2, all I had to do was develop low-frequency transmitters to go inside a soldier's helmet to affect brain activity. The plan was not to inform them. I noped out so hard, I make lotion now. But many 1/

Amen, and that should be in the job description for an editor. I've been editing for a fair while now and I've not seen that come across my desk, thankfully. I expect I'd take action (and have backing) if I did.

Thing is, as you approach the end of the rope from above, the decreasing weight of extra rope below you results in acceleration towards the end. There is no time to tie a knot. (ask me how I know)

I'm happy to share that the final version of our retinal electrical synapse proteome is out. We used proximity biotinylation techniques to capture proteins associated with Cx36 in mouse retina and Cx35.1 in zebrafish retina. elifesciences.org/articles/105...

Don’t forget gap junctional coupling. Everyone forgets gap junctional coupling, but it’s upwards of at least 25% of the current throughput in some retinal circuits.

Agree this is a very cool paper. The result is that soma-dendritic mismatch reflects an error (teaching) signal. Below panel (5e) is key data, supporting the idea that their SD residual approach captures differences in their two populations as a function of the behavioral outcome (error).

Yes. Important in the context of the release of the NIH budget bill today. NIH has been dismantled this year, and it’s NOT because of a Congressional budget cut. It’s b/c of Project 2025/Russell Vought reaching into NIH in an unprecedented way and screwing up how it’s run. The budget bill does…
