@catbus.phd If you’re into sci-fi there’s a bunch. Silo, Foundation, Murderbot, Pluribus were all fantastic. Less sci-fi-y, the Morning Show, Widows Bay, the Studio and Trying were all great.

@alisynthesis I think this is just about the shape, not the electronics. Similar to headstock shapes for Fender and Gibson are trademarked. It doesn’t make a difference how many string posts there are. It’s absurd. This shape has been unprotected for so long and has clearly moved into the […]

@alisynthesis Is that a strat shape? It's not identical to the Fender outline. If they are going for all double horn guitars we are really in trouble. This somewhat highlights one of the major issues here, how close does a shape have to be to be infringing. Does it extend to SGs. Does it extend […]

Yes, the #EU has a lot of regulations. But remember that thanks to those regulations you can use a single USB-C cable that can charge anything, rather than 10 different connectors and adapters as it was common until 10-15 years ago. Remember that it’s thanks to those regulations if you no […]

Sometimes I wonder if people remember that an ex-chef that no one particularly liked sent a rebel battalion 3/4 of the way to Moscow, and not a single town along the way tried to stop him.

@geomannie Complaint to the BBC. Alt text too short, so first paragraph here; I understand the BBC has backed the decision to allow Israel to compete in the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest. It is unclear how this position matches the BBC’s Object, Mission and Public Purposes.
In 2022, Russia was banned from competing in the Contest and the BBC did not express a public view on the situation that I am aware of. Now in 2025 the BBC is reported as outright supporting opposition to a similar matter in relation to Israel. It is unclear how these differing approaches, in what appear to be similar factual situations, accord with the BBC's mission to remain impartial. It certainly looks like bias in favour of Israel. This stated position does not serve all audiences and will actively distance and upset significant numbers of us. I hope this is made clear from this correspondence. Finally, there does not appear to me to be any public interest in the BBC playing an active part in this matter. The BBC taking an active position simply undermines the legitimacy, reputation, and percieved quality of the BBCs output. The BBC should remain impartial and not be seen to be suppotive of a country accused of committing war crimes by the International Criminal Court.

In view of the atrocities that have been, and are still being, carried out against the people of Gaza, the BBC must disassociate itself from the event. My view is that the BBC and the UK should withdraw from the competition to ensure we are not tacitly supporting extrajudicial killings of innocent adults and children. At the very least, the BBC should have remained impartial and not expressed a view at all, in line with it's Mission and Public Purpose.

@christineburns @didgebaba It’s being proposed that 10Gw of data centres for AI is to be built over the next couple of years. The *whole* of the UK uses ~30Gw. This is beyond insane. Also, a nuclear reactor produces ~1Gw. Where are 10 of those coming from in a couple of years. They take […]

If this is their strategy, why are they trying so hard to look like Reform? Why would voters desperate to stop Reform want to vote for a party that is dressing up as Reform? I don’t get it.
It will not be a binary 'Labour vs Tory' election, the PM says. ("The Conservative Party is dead" he says explicitly).
Instead it will be a "battle for the soul of the country", with voting Labour the means to stop Nigel Farage becoming PM.
The strategy, even at this early stage, for how No 10 is expecting to frame the election is now emerging.
It looks likely voters will be told 'the only way to stop Reform is to vote Labour. The hope being whole swathes of voters not normally or currently backers of Labour will hold their nose and tick the red box.

"Yeah proportional representation is great in theory but it would favour the fringe parties and give the hard right an advantage whereas FPTP favours broad-church moderation." This myth has been fully exploded in the US and UK since 2016.

Did Zelensky shout at anyone during that Oval Office ambush? I ask because journalists are routinely referring to what happened as a "shouting match" even though the abuse came from Trump and Vance, as far as I can tell.

The thing is that I broadly agree with criticism of car culture, and capitalism, and so much that underpins our entire civilisation. But either we work in our civilisation to try to mitigate its excesses or we wait for it to inevitably implode & I’m not keen on the latter for me or my kids.
