It means so much that there are books where trans people exist and are accepted as part of the narrative and that I can just find these books by accident. I never read anything like The Deep & Dark Blue as a kid and I picked it up for my kids and it was fun and cute and heartfelt.

RT with your home river Geographically I’ve always been closer to the Bow or Elbow, but the Old Man River is home. I sure hope they don’t fill it with selenium from coal mining.

My fall harvest so far. I have some more tomatoes and maybe some potatoes. Lettuce didn’t do well. I did grow and dry some herbs. I have no passion for growing stuff but it feels like a skill I better learn. I’d rather be writing and overthrowing the government.

In 2023 I felt like I was basically the only one in my community with an NDP sign in a sea of blue. This time there’s what I’d describe as “some” which is actually a lot more than 2023. Still a clear minority, but not like last time.

I went on a hike today and I’m feeling it but things are spectacular, beautiful and green (unusual for this time of year). For the record this is all downwind of Grassy Mountain. A special place and the province and an Australian billionaire are planning to blast it with coal dust and selenium.

From the Calgary Public Library about the AI Residency. Counterpoint: by paying AI artists the library is picking the side of thieves and grifters. Pervasiveness of a technology does not make it morally right. “What happens if we replace artists with computers” is not a question that needs asking.

About a month ago (it feels far longer) I sent an impassioned plea for climate action to the Prime Minister, the Premier, environment ministers, my MP/MLA and anyone else I thought would listen. So far this is the only response I’ve received. I didn’t expect much but somehow I’m disappointed.

I know everything is on fire but it rained a ton here and here’s the very swollen Náápi Otsíthaatan (or Old Man River) where I’m happiest.

The brown, muddy waters of the Náápi Otsíthaatan or Old Man River comes up a rocky bank, flowing over several bushes before reaching and cliff and turning out of sight. The vegetation along the banks of the river is silver-green along with dark green evergreens.

I’ve been emailing around trying to advocate for governments to work together to provide Covid vaccines for the fall, including Novavax. The responses are mostly “that’s the province’s job now” & this is the most encouraging reply, from Alberta’s Primary and Preventative immunization team.

Solar update. After three weeks of my panels being covered in snow, as soon as it warmed up and the sun came out the snow slid right off my panels and, despite it being February, I was able to generate more than my home’s daily usage. It’s small but I’ll take it.

Last four games I've beaten. This goes back a couple of years. I don’t get a lot of time to game and I’ve been spending time on live service stuff. I like finishing games and not having to go back to them when more content is released so stuff often sits in my library for a long time, lol.

My favourite thing about Bluesky right now is this feature to show samples from feeds. I followed a bunch but I can’t keep up with them all. Having posts from them sprinkled through my feed is perfect, even if the adult ones are showing me mostly dicks (which I’m not saying is a problem).

As a weird suburban anarchist goblin, I think clearing your driveway of snow is morally neutral but feels morally good. My theory is that a lot of folks mistake taking care of their property as good when it’s really a bit of a trap that keeps us focused inward. Anyway here’s mine.
