The deep problem of democracy is that voters can be fooled by fascists into giving it up. There should be guardrails - like, candidates and parties who espouse racism or who promote a religion or who lie should be banned from elections.

This is what I think of when I hear that an AI agent has gone beyond the bounds of an experiment. Except more malevolent.

That protects bodily autonomy. And again, a court could find that being exposed to pollution in drinking water without knowing it violates that amendment. Courts and law are a matter of interpretation.

The 9th and 14th amendments have been used to argue this point. As the 9th says, the fact that the constitution doesn’t lists right doesn’t mean that right doesn’t exist. In 1776 the right to drink clean water probably seemed pretty obvious. And the 14th says we have a right to due process…

Seriously? WTF, Sweden? How could anyone even jokingly imitate Trump at this point? Does Russia have kompromat on Kristersson? Or is he crazy?

This is the religious fanatic who is the vice president of the United States. Pray for us in the midterm elections (ironic request), to defeat a theocratic government hell-bent on apocalypse.

Thanks to Dolly for the Moderna COVID vaccine (and future mRNA medicines!), helping millions of kids learn to read, and supporting so many people’s self esteem who grew up in economic (but not cultural) poverty. ❤️❤️❤️ #ripdolly

Sitting here listening to my favorite Dolly Parton song and crying like a baby. I’ll always be glad I shared this time on earth with her. What an amazing person - if there’s are indeed 36 people who secretly hold the world together as in Talmudic lore, she was one of them. youtu.be/c1zJzr-kWsI?...

Ouch - AI is not going to cool or heat your home. In my opinion, AI data centers are not a great use of energy given AI’s use for fossil fuel exploration and surveillance and … a lot of skullduggery, in addition to the strong likelihood of coming job losses.

Not sure who you talked with, but surveys of Americans broadly show that only recently has a majority become skeptical of GMO foods, and it’s only 51%: About half of U.S. adults are wary of health effects of GMOs | Pew Research Center www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/...

About half of U.S. adults are wary of health effects of genetically modified foods, but many also see advantages
Views about the health effects of genetically modified foods grew more negative between 2016 and 2018 and have been steady since then.

Most Americans are OK with eating GMO food crops, but increasingly not OK with AI or surveillance cameras. It’s so fascinating what people are motivated to oppose … but young kids now say “that’s AI” and mean “that’s a lie”.

I hate when Russian supporters calls themselves Russophiles. No. You’re not Russophiles. Russophiles are the people who read Dostoyevsky, Turgenev and Jesenin, while Rachmaninov and Rimsky-Korsakov are playing somewhere in the house. You’re fascists.

Not to bring everything back to climate change, BUT- this Lion Nebula began to form just as the avg global rate of sea level rise slowed to a trickle, at the start of the Holocene. Just a correlation, not a cause- but maybe a new nebula is forming somewhere now, as sea level accelerates again.

The lingcod males stay on the reef to guard the eggs until they hatch- making them vulnerable to acidification or warming events during breeding season. Rockfish (rock cod) and lingcod are both moving north with increased warming of the Pacific. Someday ppl will only fish for them off Alaska.

Took my teen daughter ocean fishing for the first time this week. Caught lingcod and rock cod. What’s the saying? “teach a teen to fish and they can … well, they can sort of feed themselves.” She loved fishing but doesn’t like eating fish. One step at a time.

Europe had its famed “Year without a summer” in 1816, after Mt Tambora erupted. Which led to the invention of the bicycle by Baron Karl Von Drais (replacing horses ppl had to eat to survive that year), and Mary Shelley invented Frankenstein’s monster - often called the first sci-fi novel.
