I often walk around contemplating the expanse of knowledge and creativity that is accessible right now—all the books, the film, the tv shows, all the things I want to write. I am almost as fascinated by the origins of the novel, for example, as I am by scary movies. It all feels so thrilling.

In other news, my former boss at Victoria’s Secret hired a (white) woman convicted of 3 felonies to replace me as an SM after I quit and demoted a (Black) woman who I’d promoted in my store because she was late a few times & thus “violated the attendance policy.” They only say they’re inclusive.

I’m working constantly and taking too much adhd medication. As someone who claims to be in recovery, part of me feels really guilty. Another part doesn’t, because I have so much to do and it helps so much. So lately I’ve just been pretending AA doesn’t exist and hoping things don’t get worse 🫤.

Spoke to a horror-lover yesterday who gets deeply upset when mentally ill people are “the monsters” in film. I spent 5+ years writing a dissertation on this but find myself far less offended by it despite having lived experience of mental illness. The convo reminded me how important my research is.

Kinda resentful of current fashion trends. Just saw a reel of a (tall, thin) 41 yr old mom trading her leggings and jean jacket in for wide legs, a t-shirt, a chunky necklace, a baseball hat & sneakers. Super cute, but I lol’d at the thought of trying to pull it off. I’m too short and chubby 😆.

Honestly had another amazing day teaching. The english dpt. chair told me how happy they were to have me and asked if I was thinking of teaching full-time. Right now there aren’t a lot of university positions out there (and the pay is often poor) but I’m hoping the stars align someday.
