Going to try and finish revisions on this draft of my book today. This would have been done weeks ago if not for ~the horrors~ so finally getting it done would be a good win for the day.

Soup #2 Tomato (with grilled cheese) Didn't think to take a picture and count this until I was mostly done with it but. It is soup. A classic but a good one.

Have I asked yet what Halloween costumes the various iterations of Maeve would wear?

Incredible things happening in a coworker chat today

A screenshot of a group chat. One person posts a picture of the CGI baby from Twilight. Another responds "OMG that is horrible. The face I made when I saw that picture. That's a child I'd leave out for the wolves to take." To which I responded "You're never gonna believe this."

Not that it should matter but I'm with one of the two largest insurance providers in the state and they just... don't take it apparently.

Overcame extreme executive dysfunction to schedule an appointment to get my vaccines, only to show up and be told they don't take my insurance. Love the American healthcare system.

Alas, I am delaying the kick off to Souptober because I've had a bad insomnia week that has me feeling unwell. And I'm like constantly trying to be gentler with myself or whatever.

These are liberal pockets because they're college towns, but Bozeman in particular has seen a huge influx of younger non-colllege residents (tech industry is expanding there) who I imagine would be increasingly left leaning.

Grew up in Montana. State is more purple than it seems. We had Jon Tester in the senate for years. Split ticket gubernatorial races. Culturally, a lot of genuine libertarians who aren't keen on the current admin's more authoritarian moves.

Thinking about that time my grandma asked me what my friends and I talked about since we don't have kids and I didn't know how to explain that all my friends are fruity and into social justice and we talk about that. So I panicked and said trains.

It rly is true what ppl say about ”just don’t stop” when it comes to publishing, but I also think there’s room for another perspective that’s equally true: Go where the energy is. Don’t just “keep going,” but consider when to slow down, take a left, or park by the curb for half an hour.

Macklemore has been very intentional in taking every opportunity to turn attention back to Palestinians, and I think is a good example for anyone advocating for a marginalized group they are not a part of.

I LOVE when a sex scene includes awkwardness. I think it's very romantic when characters have to work together to navigate intimacy! Figuring out what works for them together. It's good stuff!

August was a shitshow on several fronts, and I've spent the past few weeks trying to recuperate. This weekend I'm trying to get back to living. On the agenda: baking a cheesecake for BF's birthday, getting back to revisions, decorating for fall, and doing some crafts.

Kyra McKinzie Nelson @kyramnelson.bsky.social · 10/09/2026

Yep, lost respect is totally real. I know there's a lot of fear of "being left behind" and I also know that where I work the pressure is so intense from top leadership a lot of middle managers don't feel like they can push back without risking their job. It's all so ridiculous.

000

Kyra McKinzie Nelson @kyramnelson.bsky.social · 10/09/2026

To be clear, I don't think LLMs can actually replace mass segments of the workforce or kill us all. But the way people talk about it really does reveal a lot about how much they care about humans.

I'm partial to 2 as a starting point. Easy pick up point and where you get to see the premise of the show really take off. I think someone could pick up 3 &4 and still follow, but those seasons definitely lean more into character history.
