I managed a bit of a wander in the balcony garden today on video. It’s just starting to turn golden with autumn colours out there. And is still providing fruit and veg. #balconygarden #Balkongarten #patreon www.patreon.com/learnedwords...
The Japanese maples are starting to turn golden for autumn in the balcony garden.A good harvest of apples from one potted tree and half a pot of potatoes dry on a kitchen bench after washing.Candied and dried tiny quince slices in a small jar.Sansho/Szechuan pepper berries split themselves after drying, now in a little ceramic blue bowl.

I had enough energy this week to snap and thwack the Advent yarns I spun and plied during TourDeFleece. They now need to dry before moving back to WIP status in a woven scarf. Looking forward to writing the roundup post after they've all dried! #tourdefleece #handspinning #FiberArts #Patreon

It’s been a topsy turvy month, but I finished some things-wove a dreamy scarf, spun into Tour de Fleece overtime, knitted socks, and hand sewed all the pebbles for a flower garden quilt full of Japanese fabrics. It's #FinishOrFrogAlong this month, so I need to work out my WIP tasks-probably socks.
A tumble of "pebbles" in a plastic tub - circles of all different Japanese fabric, different sizes, hand sewn to worn out work shirts, and ready to be sewn onto a patchwork quilt. A hand holds a large wooden bobbin of handspun 2 ply yarn in various dark pinks and purples, flecked with white. The sun is bright on the balcony garden that is blurred in the background. Two half-used and re-rolled up balls of yarn from a frogged sock project, and the start of a new sock project resting on its new ball of grey yarn rest on a crowded table next to a sofa. A delicate and fluffy cream cashmere and mohair scarf and sample section have just been cut off the little loom and are draped over the table loom, the fringe hanging free. There are many ends from the Leno and Spanish lace sections yet to be sewn in.

Tour de Femmes is now also finished with plenty more plying and spinning. The end #TourDeFleece roundup is on Patreon, and I'm spinning into overtime. Letting the singles bobbins rest, then plying and wet finishing them. Then I can start weaving - lots of plans! www.patreon.com/collection/2...
A number of wooden spinning wheel bobbins with various colours of yarns rest on a bamboo cutting board - labels with a little bit of the fiber fluff folded inside are scattered over their respective bobbins. Loose skeins of 2-plied handspun yarns in various blues, greens and purples are squished onto an Ikea chair, held in place with cotton stay ties. They have not yet been wet-finished, but look lovely and soft.

#TourDeFleece is over - I filled all my small bobbins. I'll ply during the Femmes, but won't know yardage until after that. This was about 850g - 100g sock wool, 50g each for the colourful samplers - plus 200g plied of an earlier spin. #spinning #handspun #fiberarts #tourdefleece2026
15 small wooden spinning wheel bobbins filled with teals, purples, and a couple of red/orange singles yarn rest with tufts of their fiber inside their labels on a foot stool. Three larger bobbins in the bottom right have a plied green yarn, and the jumbo sized bobbin holds a green sock wool single (merino/nylon).

All apart from the jumbo sock wool are from combed tops, blends from Golden Fleece Studio on Etsy - various mixtures of merino, silk, bamboo and tencel.

The cream footstool cushion cover has a pattern of small, dark blue cat head outlines filled with various patterns, a cute quilting cotton from Japan.

New up in my ko-fi shop (raising funds for more physio) the framed teddy bears picnic cross stitch I completed in 2008, and another crocheted market bag. And progress on the double rainbow remnant scarf - it's looking fabulous! #ko-fi #handmade #FiberArts #Weaving #Crochet #Xstitch #ForSale
A framed cross stitch of a teddy bear family with bears of all sizes, shapes and colours is framed in a navy and gold wooden frame, double-matted with blues echoed in the stitches. A crochet market bag in blue thick yarn is hung over a purple dressmaker's form, messenger bag style. A rigid heddle knitters' loom with a scarf in progress - a double rainbow in both warp and weft, bright on the left (and at the start of the scarf) to the muted shadow in a sparkling mohair on the right (and on the stick shuttle).

April's garden update now up for patrons, where I chat about this weekend's plans, and wonder how others deal with plant deaths - do you shrug and move on? Replace it immediately? Or take some time? #LearnedWordsPatreon #BalconyGarden #UrbanGardening
The Japanese mugword and chives are growing strongly near the tall nashi pear on the cat-net-lined balcony in the full sun. The sansho pepper has had a big hair cut, but I think it likes it with all its new little leaflets. Its pot is still covered in its winter straw and sitting against the white balcony wall, lined with cat net.

It's definitely spring out there on the balcony. The cats and I are enjoying the sakura and cherry blossoms 🌸 #BloomScrolling #BalconyGarden #Cats #sakura #SpringBlossoms
A ginger and black long-haired tabby cat sits in a garden pot under a wild cherry covered in small white blossoms. The petals are just about the fall, dotting her black tail as she peers out at a nearby bird. The zig-zag sakura is in full bloom with delicate white hanging blossoms on lichen-covered branches, looking across the rooftops towards the distant golden sunset. The Yoshino sakura is blanketed in large opened white blossoms, with barely the branch to be seen underneath it. Very cheering. The Aprikyria, a apricot crossed with a cherry, sports sparse white frilly blooms against an evening blue sky with wispy long clouds in the bottom right corner.

A sunrise tinges the Leipzig city eastern horizon a reddish orange beyond the converted factory seen from a cat-net-lined balcony garden.A colourwork knitted sock in a muted pink and purple is in progress being supervised by a long-haired ginger cat. It's obviously cold - the knitter is under a pile of blankets on the sofa, much to the cat's approval. Many skeins of finished purple-heathered handspun merino yarn hang from a media stand in front of an Ashford traveller spinning wheel, a warping frame on the wall and a set of drawers supporting a pile of empty bobbins and the next spin in progress.A collection of Weck and other bottles are full of a brilliant red liquid in the morning sun - cooling shiso cordial. There were obviously not enough bottles, as a tall measuring jug has a cotton pudding cap to keep any bugs out.

Finally laced my grandparents’ tapestry saved from a mound of rusting staples. Please don’t trim needlework canvas when framing - it makes cleaning and reframing nigh impossible. #fiberarts #tapestry
The front is mostly square - the bottom left corner of the tapestry was the hardest spit with the least amount of fabric to lace into. The tapestry is of an English country scene in spring or summer near a lake/river with a bridge, trees, a person and a horse.Positioning lacing underneath, and tightening lacing with a fine cotton crochet thread on top. Tapestries are rarely square and the corner opposite needed an extra diagonal pull. You can see how little of the canvas was left after the previous framer had trimmed it to the staple line. Positioning lacing with sewing thread and fine cord, centering the tapestry motif with the frame. The trimmed canvas was previously reinforced with cotton tape so the lacing could have something to hold onto that wouldn’t fray.

If you need a gentle nudge to create something, tomorrow I'm going to be sharing a new sketchbook prompt for free on Patreon. Paid members will also get to see a video of my painting process on Sunday. It would be lovely to have you join me over there! #sketchbook #drawing #pwme #CreativeHabit
A small corner of a sketchbook page showing paintings of a few pink flowers on a soft yellow background. The sketchbook sits on a pale grey cutting mat alongside a small dish of pencil shavings, 2 tubes of acrylic gouache, a paper towel, washi tape and a red pen.

Cookie surprised me while I was wandering around the balcony garden, looking at all the sakura cherry blossoms. I’ve shared this spring update with patrons. The coming month looks to hold a lot of work! www.patreon.com/posts/125126... #BalconyGarden #ContainerGarden #UrbanGardening #Patreon

Thank you for the creativity session! It was a lovely 20 minutes spent knitting alongside you, working on my jumper arms for #The100DayProject.

Happy to have mustered enough energy to photo and write up this month's kimono display over on Patreon. I hope the change of seasons isn't too rough on you - the ups and down are doing a number on my joints and head! #Patreon #kimono #spoonies #FiberArts www.patreon.com/posts/spring...
