Believing in restorative justice is like believing in anarchism, something you can 100% justify but something that for most of us exists only in the hypothetical, alien to our unjust, authoritarian existence, while a lampooned version of it is touted by bad actors.

Its a real problem, people weaponizing their legit problems to pressure compliance. But also I've seen people asking or begging for help be ignored and labeled manipulative by cold hearted actors. You kinda gotta evaluate it case by case I think. (I speak from experience on both sides.)

To me, the key word here is "manipulate". When in the throes of suicidality, you're in a desperate situation of need. You'll want people to help you. It only becomes "manipulation" when youre being disingenuous or deceiving to get them to do something they otherwise wouldnt.

This is why I really dislike when folks are like "AI may be bad in X, but its great in Y", because Y often ends up being something they aren't familiar with. And as it encroaches into more people's Xs, folks grow to resent it more and more.

I really think it's just an intense jealousy that artists can bring new things into the world, and they can't. They'll say it's other things, but at the end of the day, they resent being a product of existence but being unable to add anything of value to existence themselves.

Retribution is the default system for our society, and even the way these people act is in the name of retribution. No behavior you do can be criticized if the cause you're fighting for is deemed just enough, and if your cause is supremely righteous, then depravity in fighting for it can be endless.
