Something I was thinking about: I hate disgusted face reactions in video thumbnails! Like, okay, sometimes it can be warranted I guess, but like 90+% of the time, its not! I criticize things all the time, but real actual disgust? Thats just not common. Disgust is so frequently performative.

I can accept differences of opinions when it comes to art and media, but a red flag to me is when someone declares something to be a masterpiece or perfect when it has obvious and massive flaws. I wonder whether they're oblivious, wilfully dishonest, or dishonest to themselves.

Saw the new Resident Evil movie. Everyone comparing it to the games is part of why I think its only okay as a movie. Its goofy and the writing is afraid to take its story seriously. And it doesnt even really have an ending. Honestly I preferred the old movies.

There needs to be a term for moral relativism but when applied to media/art. If you call anything bad and explain why, many online people get mad and respond that all art is subjective and nothing is truly bad. I'm not sorry but some art is good and some isn't. And we all know this. Why pretend?

"Not all AI is bad." Wrong. The corporate buzzword tech slop called AI is a plague upon humanity, and we would all be better off without it. We were better off without it. Machine learning, deep learning, LLMs, it's just regurgitating patterns. It does nothing humans couldn't already do better.

People are missing the point when they talk about companies not producing physical media anymore "to save on money from producing the discs". Its not about how costly it isnt to make discs. Its about making you rent everything and own nothing. These companies want to be digital landlords.

The logic here is that all scenes in movies must be imperative to the narrative, but you don't see such takes about establishing shots of the setting or quiet scenes that build tension. Scenes don't need to move the plot. They can evoke feelings, be character moments, or just set up later scenes.

Sometimes I see the way small independent artists who regularly challenge copyright via fanart talk about owning their art, possessing it, the right to destroy it, and similar things, and I am struck by the realization that a lot of y'all really would just recreate copyright if given the chance.

Made a 3-Dimensional Political Diagram Infographic and was proud of it. As are all political charts, it's oversimplified, but I like to think it's better than the 2-axis one.

Just read this article and thought it was very insightful. Game romance is largely wish fulfillment. I think games need to be more willing to have characters turn the player down, for romance to fail not because you said the wrong thing but rather just because youre not compatible.

In my opinion, this depression isn't a natural phenonemon. Being sad when a beloved game concludes is expected, but depression? I think depression is an extreme response indicative of some kind of over-attachment or hyperfixation, especially if the game had a satisfying ending.

I also asked this. I think it shows that Nintendo is not confident in Mario movies, even after the success of the last one. If they were, theyd milk it by making movie adaptations of every big game in order, bank on nostalgia. Skipping to one of the biggest games is short term gain, long term folly.

There's been much drama in some sectors of bluesky lately where I've seen a specific rhetorical tactic ad nauseam, what I'd call a fallacy. Seeing such a Thing done repeatedly without knowing its name, I thought about it and wanted to share my conclusion. This thread is about motivated bulverism.

There was a scene in my Homestuck Is Good Actually video essay where I talk about how Gamergate affected the fandom. Originally I showed images of Zoe and Wu. I decided to remove Wu because of what she became but worried I was cherry picking history. This thread has me thinking it was the right call
