Over the weekend I had Claude set up a daemon on my Mac mini that syncs all of my Mastodon posts to my Obsidian vault. Now I can search them on all of my devices.

Come hungry, leave happy!
Stereotypical AI-generated add for a hot pot restaurant. Features the phrase: Come hungry. Leave happy.

I just rescued my fourth lost dog, on a walk. Four-out-of-four owners have never seemed relieved or excited or offered thanks.

Oh, wow, I hate this the most.
Political donation text message that says:

You know who doesn’t have to send these stupid f@!$ing text messages?

My Republican opponent…

Sir, this is a public trail. (I think signs like this do more to permanently pollute public scenery than the crimes they denounce.)
A sign, posted from someone’s backyard facing a public walking trail, that says:

Want to start yoga? Start by bending over and picking up your DOG SHIT known as the downward dog position then put it in a bin!

Microblogging social media is a joyless void because the main demographic is now in or near middle age. 15 years ago that was not the case. I think that sums it all up.

We have a lot of elements against the top edge that work well with UIScrollEdgeElementContainerInteraction on iOS 26, like permanent controls and scrolling sticky header. I worry how those will look below the dividing line. Do you know of any Apple examples of sticky elements?

Does anyone remember iPSP, the iPhoneOS-lookalike portal for the PSP released before the original iPhone? It is the crowning achievement of my friend and me. We will never make anything more popular. The YouTube videos have over 750k views. www.brewology.com/?p=377 youtu.be/rKkMJTB6s3A?si=HhEY4...

It continues to be the case that buying stock when red charts are being posted on Mastodon and selling when they stop being posted is a great way to make a buck. Not advice, of course, just an observation.

I didn't have any real problems with my tmux workflow on desktop, so Orca is a minor improvement there. I do appreciate vendor agnostic automations and quick commands. But the UX improvement over MOSH clients on my iPhone is huge. I can reliably start work on mobile now, not just continue it.

Oh, huh, Opus 5.5 really can one-shot videos. This prompt was < 100 words and it took 10 minutes to make on my 5-year-old MacBook with no video production software installed. I guess this is the end of everything.

Every app I want to make these days needs a sheet / drawer like Apple Maps and Shortcuts, but they hide it from us. They taunt us. I say we seize the means of production and cast off these chains!

GitHub isn't universally bad, they're just a bad macOS-as-a-Service. For example, it is very convenient to have the entire operation and distribution of the app available turnkey in a single place, familiar to the entire team, where all load-bearing scripts are run. I can release from my phone.

Of course we support iPad, and iPhone in landscape. My users are technicians in the field using their personal iPhones, or folks in warehouses using deployed iPads. I take a lot of pride in making sure that this enterprise software is familiar, best-in-class, and as performant as possible.

My favorite area, and the one that is most difficult to make fake data for, is chat. I think Liquid Glass looks its best on screens that aren't just grays and blacks. The message composer was a tough translation, but I loved getting to use the keyboard material for our attachment drawer.

Kyle Hughes @kylehugh.es · 30/08/2026
The most consistent hurdle with Liquid Glass was the desire–especially translating from Android–to stack things against the navigation bar, toolbar, or keyboard. We made it work.

Kyle Hughes @kylehugh.es · 30/08/2026
Before iOS 27, I wanted to mention how pleased I am with how Liquid Glass turned out with my job's app. We support iOS 16-26 so it's not easy to thread the needle. I worked with a great Android-focused designer that let me make suggestions for how to best adapt. I think Dark Mode is beautiful.

"Sol-class models, which are already obsolete." It is probably more accurate to say that the singularity has started than that we are near the top of an observable S-curve.

For example, you can wrap idempotent API methods in your service and get call coalescing for free, without compromising Swift concurrency semantics.

lol I had GPT 5.6 Pro research and make a graph of when we can expect Google AI Overview to be powered by a Fable-class model that has the necessary speed and economics Google is looking for: March 2027
Scatter plot titled “The missing corner for Google AI Overviews: Fable-class intelligence at Search latency and Flash economics.” The x-axis is estimated model-only time to produce a 200-token answer, on a logarithmic scale; the y-axis is Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index score. Claude Fable 5 reaches the target score of 62 but takes about 140 seconds and costs $7.70 per million tokens. Qwen3.8 Max is much closer to the desired frontier, scoring 58 at about 5.2 seconds and $1.18 per million tokens; Kimi K3 scores 60 at about 7.2 seconds and $2.31 per million. Gemini 3.5 and 3.6 Flash cost about $1.31 and $1.16 per million but score 52 and take roughly 39 and 25 seconds, respectively. A highlighted forecast point at score 62 and roughly 4.5 seconds represents the missing combination of Fable-class intelligence, Search-compatible latency, and Flash-level pricing, predicted for Q1 2027.
