Theo'd be a fan (phan?) of the Phantom of the Opera. I think he would feel a certain connection to any work that is sympathetic to an ugly, rejected, genius goth with social issues and a bad habit of violent outbursts. It's a guilty pleasure but he would sing the songs. In private. (So he thinks.)

Chocodile has long wanted me to make a ref of Ambroys from our completely inexplicable angel/devil AU... at last, I have done it. Ambroys is to humans what sparkledogs are to rottweilers. A sparkleman, if you will.
A reference sheet for a character drawn in a cartoon style. The character is an angel, of the bewinged human variety. He has golden-brown skin, blond hair, iridescent white wings and is absolutely covered in sparkles. A little chibi doodle shows him getting teased by a cigar-smoking devil (his bestie/worstie).

Ill health runs - ran - in the North line. Caring for an ailing mentor is a familiar, almost comforting ritual to Theo. He welcomes the opportunity Hyden presents to fall back into his old routines. It makes him feel useful. It makes him feel that maybe he can fix it this time.

There are rumors that some malady has stricken the Comte de Luxe. His luster has faded, his halo dimmed, and behind each movement there is a twinge of pain… or fear. Of course, he denies it all. He is fine, more than fine, perfect as always - simply feeling “a little drained.”

A Cure For Barbarity 💉 (1/5) A comic focusing on Alex and Theo's conflict: she's an anti-imperialist ex-soldier, he's arrogant mage nobility, she's no-nonsense, he's prone to nonsense, she hates Hyden, he adores the man beyond reason. Theo knows how to get under her skin. In more ways than one.

A Cure for Barbarity 💉 (3/6) Once he gets his claws in, Theo gets a "feel" for a body's state, partly like it's his own, partly like a toy he's playing with. This could be a useful skill for medicinal purposes, but when your heart is in this creep's hands... that's not very comforting.

Doodled @anderbloodeyes.bsky.social's comment. I like to imagine that Ander is always waiting just offscreen, ready to be a hater during any major emotional scenes.
Hyden pensive by the train window sighing over his ex, followed by Theo trying to comfort him, followed by Ander the tanuki in another adjacent seat/cabin cutting in to undermine the narrative Hyden is trying to spin. Irritated, Theo slams their cabin's privacy curtains closed to block him out.

Anon asks if Hyden was confused by Theo's devotion to his mom. Yes, and also 'weirded out', for lack of a better term. He doesn't get why you'd care so much about ANYONE, never mind someone whose only reason for being in your life was birthing you. He sees it as a lack of maturity on Theo's part.
Horrible fat rabbit furry man Hyden smokes a cigar and reads a book in an armchair while he squints at Theo in the background, who is dusting a fancy painted portrait of his mama while sniffling

matching sporty winter fits for a wicked mother and her horrid son.
Drawing of two anthro characters. Both are dressed in late Victorian clothing. On the left is a tall, thin mature-looking ermine woman. She is dressed in a mid-length skirt, short-heeled boots with dozens of tiny silver buttons, and a short fitted coat lined with ermine fur and tails (not her own). On the right in a short, chubby rat man. He is wearing tall boots, riding breeches, leather gloves and a long coat, also trimmed with ermine fur. His red scarf is the only bit of color the two are wearing. The two look at each other out of the corners of their eyes, smiling at one another like neither is particularly practiced at it but with genuine fondness. The backdrop is a gray-blue circle dotted with snow.

The people-pleaser is unpleased when the people aren't pleased. (1/2)
A brief comic drawn in response to a tumblr ask. The message reads: "Ambroys, you always strive to look as good as possible. Is that just because you're worried about what people might think if you let yourself go (even for a day)? Or are you just desperately seeking attention, because you fear you might lose it once you're aged?"
The first panel shows Ambroys, an anthro unicorn. He's a pretty-boy type character, colored in creams and golds, while everything surrounding him is colored rose-pink. He's being dressed in foppish Rococo-esque clothing and having his shining, literally sparkling hair brushes by valets. With wide-eyed concern, he addresses the asker with a volley of questions: "Uh, you know I don't have to give a shit about what 'people might think' since I'm, like, above mortals, right? Isn't it good that I want to look my best for you all anyway? You do get that i put in all this effort for YOUR benefit, don't you? Aren't you happier having me add something beautiful to your life? Is that not what you want?"

His question turns hostile: "Should I even care about what you people want when you're always so--" his surroundings turn darker and red instead of pink now, and the panel is a close-up of his face. Replacing worry is an expression of barely constrained rage. The ends of his hair have sparked into white-hot flames, and his eyes are unnaturally bright. He continues, his speech-bubbles ragged and fiery: "--fucking UNGRATEFUL?"

Relax your grip, lady. No one's taking that thing away from you. (No one else wants it.)
A short comic in response to a tumblr ask. The question reads: "Why or for what reason didn't Jocosa try to have more kids?"
The first panel shows an anthro ermine woman. She is dressed in late Victorian clothing. She looks up at the viewer from under lowered brows, but her expression is carefully neutral. She holds a baby in her arms, who graps onto her dress. The baby looks altricial, with bulging, dark-circled eyes like a baby bird and transparent skin that shows his veins. The woman says: "My husband and parents often ask that very same question. I regret to have put forth an unsatisfactory effort, but I did... 'try.' Theopolis--this little one, who needn't be stared at--is my third-born."
In the second panel, we see a close-up of her face. She breaks eye-contact with the viewer, her brow slightly furrowed. The baby reaches up to grasp her face, and she lightly touches his small arm. She continues: "Before him, I bore two others. Two perfect, tiny bodies."
In the last panel, she grasps the child, her fingers trembling from the strength of her grip. The baby holds her in turn, his tiny claws digging into her back as he drools and chews on her dress' lapel. Both glare at the viewer, Jo gazes over her baby's head, her baby opening one corpse-pale eye. She finishes: "I will not suffer my bearing place becoming a grave again. I have carried enough corpses. I know the family thinks it terribly negligent of me to let this poor thing be the sole scion of our lineage. He is sickly. He is malformed. He is imperfect... and he is alive. I need nothing more of my last, my only son."

In which Theo says "I'm not naive," then proceeds to be deeply naive.
A comic of anthro characters drawn in a cartoon style in response to a tumblr ask. The ask reads: "Hey Theo, do you TRULY think Hyden isn't taking advantage of you and cares about your goals with dearest mother?"
In the first panel, Theo-an small, nebbish-looking rat dressed in an old-fashioned suit-looks aside, hunching anxiously. He says: "I am not naive. I am aware that the duke does not, could not care as I care. He hardly knows me, and he never... never had the fortune to know her."
In the next panel, both Theo and the man he's speaking of, Hyden, are depicted. Hyden is a large, older-looking rabbit. On the right side of the panel, Hyden, somewhat disheveled looking, reaches his hand up to touch a ruby-colored cracked gem on his forehead. He stares forward, his brow furrowed. On the left, Theo is shown to have a similar-looking ruby gem implanted into his hand (though his implantation may have gone less well, given that the hand his gem is stuck in has turned black and veiny). Theo rubs the gem against his cheek, like a child might nuzzle a blanket or toy for comfort. The silhouette of a ghostly woman wearing the same gem around her neck hovers behind him, her thin, bony hands gently holding him. Words overlay the panel: "Yet I know him. I know his magic is as precious to him as Mother is to me. I know the agony of being ripped from your purpose, your power, a piece of your soul. I know that if we two half-men work together, we stand a better chance at making ourself whole than if he toiled apart. I know he knows that too."
In the final panel, we see Theo again, still hunched, but with his chin lifted and a slight smile on his face. He fidgets with his cravat as he says: "...though the duke is not the sort of man to weep for my sorrows, I cannot help but to- to hope, in my foolish, selfish way- that when we have reclaimed what was stolen from us, when he can finally know my mother as who she IS not WAS, he may yet shed a tear of joy."

In his grief, Theo's words are faltering, and his grasp on reality is somewhat unstable, but his convictions are neither. He will never give up on Mother. He simply can't.
Short comic drawn in response to a tumblr ask: "is there anything that would make you give up trying to bring back mother dearest? Or would you die trying?" The comic has a chilly blue-gray color scheme. and depicts an anthro rat character. He is small, pudgy, and dressed in old-fashioned winter clothes.
In the first panel, he sits in a forst of bare-branched aspen trees. Snow falls around him as he breathes foggy air into his gloved palm, watching as the fog breaks around his fingers. His brow is tense and his eyes wide as he says: "there is no giving up. There is no other choice. For me to go on without her--it is as if, ah, as if this fog lingered on the winter air without my breath to form it. As if my shadow still clung to the earth even after the light that cast it went dark. D-do you understand? That I live while she does not is an antinomy."
The second panel pulls back, looking at him from above to reveal that he is leaning against one of the graves in a quiet snowbound graveyard. The shape of the grave casts a long shadow over his body in the shape of a coffin. He looks up at the sky, clutching himself as he continues: "my lungs draw breath, my heart beats, but I am no less a corpse than she. If her chance at life costs the rest of mine--it will have cost nothing at all."

His dad procreating with side pieces is something that Theo wouldn't have considered. He forgets that babies can be born out of wedlock. (If reminded, he'd find it so unfair that his perfidous father might've spawned a higher quantity (maybe even quality) of descendants than his perfect mother.)
An ask message from tumblr with a cartoon drawing made in response.

The message reads: "Theo, think you got any half-siblings out there?"

Theo, a small, chubby anthro rat dressed in an old-fashioned suit and bowtie, replies: "Oh hell." He pauses, staring into the middle distance, gripping the side of his face with a gloved hand. After a pause, he continues: "I dearly hope that I don't. It is appalling enough that my father afflicted even ONE woman with carrying his lowly spawn."

Ambroys aims for "adorably naive," not "can't tie my own shoes," but apparently he can sometimes play too dumb.
A short comic with two human original characters (the human forms of Ambroys and Lou, who I draw more often as a unicorn and goat respectively). Ambroys is a preppy pretty-boy, Lou is a grouchy tomboy.

The comic is in response to a tumblr ask, which is screenshotted at the top: "Ambroys, how good are you at tying your shoes?"

In the first panel, Ambroys responds to the question, looking nervous. He holds a rose-gold, sparkly smart phone in his manicured hands. He says: "Why would I -- I haven't had trouble tying my shoes since I was like FIVE YEARS OLD?!" He pauses. "Hang on. I have to call somebody."

The next panel shows Lou answering her phone. She's lounging on a couch. Through the phone, Ambroys shouts: "LOU!"
She replies: "What do you want, dickbag?"
He says: "I'm going to ask you something and you've gotta be honest, okay? Do I ever come off like I'm dumb?"
She says, bluntly: "All the time."

The next panel is mostly a giant speech bubble of Ambroys screaming "FUCK YOU!" over Lou's phone, then hanging up.

After a brief pause, he starts calling her again. She looks begrudging about answering him, but does so.

Instead of a proper greeting, he asks: "Dumb like a silly puppy? 🥺👉👈"
She replies: "Dumb like a dumbass."
Again, he screams "FUCK YOU!" and hangs up.

He'd have very different feelings about this mythical beast known as "consequences" depending on when in his timeline he's asked - so here's a few Ambroyses across the years.
Short comic drawn in response to a tumblr ask, which questions the character Ambroys about his inability to consider consequences, wondering if this is a side-effect of his mortality.

The first panel is labeled "~20 years old." It has a pink color-scheme. A young, foppish unicorn man reclines on some pillows, waving his hand dismissively at the questions. At first, he does an unflattering mimicry of the question: "There are consequences to your actions, blablablah" before saying "Oh, please. You're boring me. I hear enough of this crap from Papa."

The next panel is his at ~30 years old. It has a sickly green palette. The same unicorn hunches, dressed only in a loosely tied robe which falls off his body. His hair is disheveled and his eyes are wild and ringed with dark eye bags. He has bandages on both his arms. He snarls: "Or maybe I AM playing the long game and you just don't get it 'cause of YOUR stupid little lifespan! Maybe one day I'll be right where I wanna be, and you'll be fucking DEAD!" In a weak afterthought, he adds "you... you think about that."

The last panel is labeled "~300 years old" and has a golden palette. The background is of churchlike stained glass. The same character is present, dressed richly in a priestly garment, visibly aged from his younger appearance, with streaks of silver and white in his long gold hair. With a weary grimace, he says: "Oh, I'd argue that immortality makes one far LESS impulsive. When you know you have an endless wealth of years, you can afford to wait... but a rash move can have you paying the price for a long... long... time."

Theo on the "power imbalance" between Hyden and he. (Can't have a savior complex about a person who doesn't need saving!) Hyden IS manipulating Theo, but he's leading Theo with a rope that Theo handed to him, and Theo wouldn't have given him that rope if Hyden had appeared strong enough to yank it.
A short comic drawn in response to a tumblr ask. The ask wonders about Theo's relationship to a man named Hyden. Theo helps him with his daily duties, including dressing him and possibly bathing him, while Theo receives nothing in return. The asker states there is a power imbalance between the two men, and asks if Theo ever worries about Hyden's power.

The first panel shows an anthro rat man dressed in a suit. He sneers and says: "I will tell you what I told Hy--his Grace: I am not bathing anyone. Indeed, despite your pothering, I do not perform any courtesy unless I wish it. ...Do you believe that Duke Hyden is forcing me to assist him? By what means?"

In the next panel, a anthro rabbit (much larger than the rat) struggles to walk, while the rat looks concerned. A monologue continues over the panel: "Certainly not by strength. As you say, the man is feeble, sickly, slow. His legs are nearly double the length of mine, yet I am the one that must shorten my steps to allow him to keep pace. Without my ministering, his vigor would decline even further."

Next panel: the rabbit leans over the rat, gazing in wonder at flames he's conjured. "Not by spellwork. He is as harmless as a master marksman who has lost his sight. He was once the deadliest mage the world had ever known, but now he cannot conjure even a spark. Not without my help."

In the next panel, the rat is clad in a coronet and royal cape, which he drapes over the rabbit. "Not by sovereignty. In this age, I am nobility, a man of status, and he is no one, a man stripped of his power, his prestige, even his personhood. I alone respect his title. I alone am his ally in a world that despies him-no,worse than that-a world that does not even know he lives."

In the last panel, the rat looks askance at the viewer, a mix between a smirk and a snarl on his face. "So, you say there is an 'imbalance of power' between Duke Hyden and I. I say you are correct... though you have attributed that power to the wrong man."

SINS OF THE SON (1/2) There is an infestation of rats in Northcrest manor. Which is the vermin and which is the exterminator depends on each one's point of view.
The first half of a comic, drawn in a monochrome cartoon style with heavy black hatching.
In the first panel, an anthro rat man opens a heavy wooden door. The man is dressed in a ~1900s-era sack suit. He is surrounded by the light of the outside, but the inside of the manor is drenched in deep shadow. The door sits beneath an archway crowned with the emblem of a heraldic sheild and a baron's coronet.
In the second panel, the man ascends a flight of stairs. He uses a mote of light he has conjured from his palm to illuminate his surroundings: peeling wallpaper, dusty old painting, cobwebs. He's in a grand old manor, but a very neglected one. In the shadows, below his line of sight, there is another figure hidden in the shadows. His silhouette is that of another rat man, though rather than walking up the stairs he crouches and crawls, more animalistic, the lens of his glasses flashing like a predator's eyes in the dark. One can barely make out the fire poker in his hand.
In the final pinal, the first rat man has drawn back the curtain of a bed. His expression is one of horror; despite being indoors, his breath gives off a chilly fog. He stares down at the silhouette; it looks like the figure of a woman at rest. Behind him, the glasses of his pursuer glint in the pitch darkness.
Text boxes wind their way through all the panels, saying: "He knew he was not welcome. I had rid the manor of vermin before. Overthrown as patriach, he crept back as a thief, here to seize his 'entitlement;' my birthright. If he had not been stopped, he would have had me declared me. He would have taken my home away from me. He would have taken HER away from me."

Despite Theo really wishing he'd been born as an the same species as his mother instead of as a rat-person, an ermine-Theo would not look as elegant as he thinks he would look.
Drawing of an anthro character. This character is drawn as an ermine. He is white-furred, short, chubby, and dressed formally. He grimaces awkwardly, showing crooked fangs. He has a short, bushy tail with a black tip. In the upper corner of the image are three little doodles of the same character in a simplified feral form: one of him doing a weasel war dance, one of him with his mother (a much longer, elegant-looking ermine, and one of him perched on the back of a giant fat rabbit, gnawing on the bunny's ear in carnivorous glee. The bunny seems unbothered.)

At Ambroys' present-day multi-century age, some past screw-ups don't seem so bad anymore, maybe because he's successful now, or people who'd be mad at him are long dead, or he's lied about them so often he's replaced his memories with confabulations. Still, he has few mistakes that he winces over.
A two-panel sequence of an effete, maturely-aged anthro unicorn character speaking. He's dressed in fantastical priest robes and has a literal halo, so there's some religious nonsense going on here.
At the top, there's a question from an anonymous follower: "Deep down, how much does Ambroys regret it all?"
He answers, posing with his hands out like he's a metrosexual Jesus, his halo glowing radiantly: "What's to regret? Look at me. Admired, adored, worshipped, even. I've lived a wonderful life. True, I've suffered more than my share of tribulations... but if I had not suffered them, I may have become a different man, one who could not share his light with all of you. I would gladly endure each terrible wound of my past, now that I know the blood that I spilled would, one day, help flowers grow."
In the second panel, he looks askance, a fidgeting finger pressed to his cheek. He says: "That said... there are a few little things here and there that could have been done... differently."

Theo: "When I hit myself with a hammer it makes me stronger and a better person because it is my awesome destiny to make myself suffer unnecessarily and on purpose" Jo's distant voice from beyond the veil: "NOT WHAT I MEANT"
First half a simple comic featuring anthro characters. At the top there is a screenshot of a tumblr message saying: "Theo: since your catalyst stone is bonded to your hand, it's right there on top of your muscles and tendons. Does that impact your dexterity? And isn't the hand an important means of casting magic?"

The first panel, colored in fleshy reds and maroons, shows a small man's hand, with a cutaway revealing the muscles and tendons underneath his skin. A red stone, shaped like a teardrop, is embedded into the flesh. He says: "Hnk. I knew better than to damage muscle... though I could not avoid interference with the extensor tendons. At first, there was pain, a peculiar grinding sensation, though the nerves have since learned to cease their whining."

In the second panel, the cutaway is gone, showing just the hand. Red, vein-like magical strings emanate from the stone, appearing to manipulate the man's fingers. He says: "At worst, the fingers of my left hand occasionally rebel, refusing my orders to straighten. Fortunately, the cause is also the cure for any incidents of digital noncompliance."

The next panel has a gray-purple colorscheme, showing it takes place in the past. An ermine woman dressed in Victorian attire channels flowing streams of magic into a single beam of light using a wand. Above the image, the man's monologue continues: "Most mages do not rely solely on the hands for casting. It is more prudent to use a focus. Magic is a savage force. It will fight against its domination like a wild animal. Only the unwise offer it their hand instead of a leash. Mother favored a wand for taming her more tempestuous spells."The comic continues.

The next panel shows the man in full, also in the gray-purple flashback color scheme. He's a short, chubby rat anthro in a three-piece suit. He is shrouded in darkness, whipping around the wand and peering over his shoulder like he's trying to find something in the dark. His present-day self monologues incessantly: "Alas, despite her tutelage, when I attempted to wield her wand, it served me little better than a stick. A blind man cannot see the glow of a fire, only feel its heat. My mother saw the light of magic, but I only sensed it through its burn. When the wand absorbed the familiar sting I felt when casting, I was lost, unable to descry what my mother, what all mages, perceived so keenly."

The next panel is back to the present-day maroons and reds. The vein-like magic emanates (or is absorbed by) the stone in his hand, which he looks at with an expression of scornful analysis. "Hence, I am... obliged to cast with my hands. Magic heeds my commands only when I submit my flesh to its bite and refuse to flinch. Yes, it is true that the catalyst stone demands yet more sacrifice, greater endurance..."

In the final panel, the man squeezes his hand into a fist, the magic energy bursting from between his fingers almost like the spraying innards of a squashed bug. His expression is a strange mixture of a smile and a grimace, his mouth pulled back taught to show his fangs and his eyes opened wide. He concludes: "...But pity my not. Despite my deficiencies, my mother was able to teach me much. When I struggled, she told me how 'suffering begets strength.' She knew then, as I know now, that our power must be the progeny of pain."

Ambroys can endure injuries that would kill most. In his elder years, he is only mildly inconvenienced by mortal wounds. At this age (60+ despite the baby face), he's taken a lot of hits. Still squeamish about pain though. Anya has a much keener interest in exploring the limits of his fortitude.
Two-panel cartoon drawing made in response to a tumblr ask which reads: "Ambroys: your regenerative capabilities are quite impressive. What is the worst injury you have recovered from? What is the worst injury you think you can take? Do you experiment and see how far your capabilities can go?"

In response, Ambroys (an anthro unicorn) says: "Fuck, that's grim. I guess the worst would be the time I got a couple arrows in the neck? Or maybe one of the stab wounds? ...I don't know which one of those would be more deadly for, um, anyone who isn't me." He looks down at himself. Ghostly impressions of arrows, a sword and a dagger pierce his body, showing where he's been wounded in the past.

Then he whips his head around to a figure standing behind him. She's a lioness. He says: "It won't kill me, obviously, but getting stabbed still hurts, so I don't want to experiment to see how big of a knife you can shove in me just because someone is curious."

The lioness, exasperated, says: "Fine!"

Ambroys continues: "So stop asking."

She replies: "I did!"

Jocosa endured her conjugal duties because it was her obligation as the sole heir to her line, but after the birth of her son, she put the marital bed to death. A mercy killing. She wouldn't dare speak of her dread of a man's touch, were it not for the rules of this prompt demanding the truth.
A short comic features an anthro ermine woman.
A question asks "Jo - what was your most embarrassing moment in life?"
The first few panels show her beginning to say, "The night --" before involuntarily wincing, then releasing her breath.
She says "The night of my wedding," above a flashback of her younger self lying on a bed in the dark. She stares at the ceiling with a blank but subtly nervous expression, lying on her back like a corpse, her hands clasped tensely on her chest. A man sits on the edge of the bed, smoking in his undergarments. He makes a snipe at her expense for just "lying there."
In the last panel, back in the present, she looks away from the viewer and says "...It is a cruelty of nature, that the soft clay of a woman's body must be molded and deformed by a man's rough hands to sculpt her child. Yet as the years pass, as it is used up, clay grows hard, unyielding, too brittle to invite touch. That is nature's mercy."

Which of his parents does Theo resemble? Kinda both, kinda neither. He's a bit of an anomaly.
Drawing meant to show which parent a character takes after. His mother is an ermine woman he shares his pointy features, his dad is a rat man who shares his rounder features, but he's much stranger looking than either than of.

as the sole scion of a noble family, Theo would be obligated to sire the next generation - unfortunately for his mother there is no such thing as sex-ed yet, just really awkward conversations

Theo's not lying about reading this tripe to understand how "normal people" view Hyden, except this book was not made for normal people. Which is why he - well. "Likes it" isn't quite right, but he definitely feels some kind of way about it.
Drawing of an anthro rat character justifying why he owns and reads an absolutely awful romance book. The cover of the book has a buff rabbit man (a very generous interpretation of a historical evil wizard) embracing a swooning raven-haired damsel.
