I needed to amend this so all of my year-end wrap-ups -- that not only only nobody asked for, but I'm not even sure anyone's even seeing -- reflect 2025's entirety. I spent so much money on concerts this year. I will not be doing that again in 2026 (probably). But, this shit did all rule.

Adding to my last two posts: With the decade very nearly halfway over, I made a list (and crude handmade graphic) sharing my top 48* albums of the first half of the 2020s. (*I like 12 and multiples of 12. A top 50 would have made me antsy and I will be taking no questions on the matter.)

For the 3rd year, I am following up yesterday's Apple Replay highlights with my personal top 12 albums of the year. 2025 sucked, in a variety of ways, but I try to remember it could have been worse and hope that next year isn't. Some great music, though, and that ain't nothing.

A tradition I uphold for me and me alone, here are some of the most important of my Apple Music Replay stats. I am a top 100 listener of FKA Twigs and Rosalía, although I believe Apple Music only has 300 users. I'm also a top 500 listener of Roxy & Kate, but I blame vinyl for these poor showings.

It's a blessing to be a music fan at the same time that Rosalía is actively creating Like w Charli & brat, it's satisfying to see a breakthrough occur w a record that is so uncompromised The subtitles for this were essential. Very charming performance & interview www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVdn...

The Charli & Cale collab is terrific. Cale's past couple of albums were surprising, late-career highlights, and Charli has long been one of our finest. This is a timely, and exquisitely timed, release. All may be falling apart, but the music is killing it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xgp7...

Rosalía's 'LUX' is a frigging masterpiece. Staggering shit. And of course this is a pop album. What else could it be? Pop isn't a form that needs to be subverted, its potential has always been inherently limitless. We don't deserve Rosalía, but we definitely need her.

Now THIS is how you do a first single from your upcoming album. My goodness. I've watched this video like six times since it dropped at noon. Other level shit from an artist who was already completely other level. www.youtube.com/watch?v=htQB...

Sly and Brian Wilson in the same week. A bad week for troubled visionary geniuses, but holy shit have they both made my life so much more bearable than it might have been. RIP, Brian www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oe6y...

Via interviews, playlists, t-shirts, etc., I've more than gleaned that Charli is an open & proud Lou Reed fan. Quite right, of course. Here, while receiving a trade mag's Hitmaker of the Year award, she speaks of 'VU & Nico.' I was actually moved by this. youtu.be/GQTaD9Vdrf0?...

For posterity, I suppose, and now in keeping with tradition (as I posted one of these last year) here are my 12 favorite albums of 2024. There could be numerous honorable mentions, but I don't want to quarrel with my compulsion to make it, and leave it, 12. [This post has now been revised twice.]

It's Apple Music Replay time. My first ever Bluesky post was last year's lists & never let it be said that I'm one to buck tradition. More concerning than my desire to share this may be the fact that I spent 20, or so, minutes arranging these crude images so this data could be presented here.

I'll post this here, why not? On election night - not able to sleep & figuring it couldn't make me feel any worse - I decided to finally check out Terrifier 2. To my complete shock, I actually enjoyed it, fully & entirely on its own stupid, gross terms. I absolutely got the appeal. (cont.)

You're goddamned right no one asked for them. Here are my lists of favorite live performances and albums for the year of our Lord, Two Thousand and Twenty-Three. No one's reading anyway, so I may as well indulge myself.

I can think of no inaugural post more tedious than my Apple Music Replay results. So, let us proceed in this dreadful spirit. While streaming is not my primary way of listening to music, I still spent a crazy number of hours this year doing so. That is the only genuine surprise.
