Themes:

- Nothing left to do but pray. Not in a bullshit "thoughts and prayers" kind of way, but in a profound and truer sense. A return to Eden. A desire to eat to commune with God, to eat to taste, rather than simply eat to live.

- Regarding all of today's chaos, how can I blame certain people when I myself have done nothing for the poor? I haven't loved those around me. I havent fasted. I haven't prayed.

- Our actions, or lack thereof, affect those around us in some sort of spiritual and mystical sense. Perhaps they affect even those people we hate. Maybe I share some responsibility for other's suffering after all. Maybe I am the one dropping the bombs.

- What is the purpose of faith if it's merely "hope" in something greater? People find hope in a lot of things. What makes this special? It has to require action. It has to cost something. It requires "carrying your cross." Maybe this is what makes our faith into truth.

Started this last night. A book about growing up in the south and contemplating death? Sounds like a great Holy Week read to me! @rachaelmaddux.bsky.social

Also good, but the audiobook wasn't the best call. Zone out for one second while driving or running and I'm lost. Have had to read a couple chapter summaries after the fact to make sure I was following.

Didn't sleep last night. Just constant panic attack after how much money I spent on this yesterday. Very happy, and it's a somewhat needed business expense, but it was still painful.

Like, is this about Indonesia in the mid 1960s, or about the U.S. today? Maybe mass murder isn't occurring yet, or maybe it is? The communists weren't dangerous, but they were popular. Their popularity would make it harder for the U.S. to properly exploit the country's resource-rich land for profit.
Screenshot of my e-reader with highlighted text that reads: This was a new characteristic of the mass violence. People weren't killed in the streets, making it very clear to families that they were gone. They weren't officially executed. They were arrested and then disappeared in the middle of the night. Loved ones often had no idea if their relatives were still alive, making them even more paralyzed with fear. If they complained, or rebelled, could that be what cost their imprisoned loved ones their lives? Might they be taken too? Even in the face of overwhelming evidence that mass murder is occurring, the human instinct is to hold out hope that your son, or your daughter, might still be saved. This freezes people, and makes populations much more quiescent- easier to exterminate and easier to control.

I just called and left a message. It was easy. You can too! This is the template I came up with...
Senator ______

My name is _____ and I am one of your constituents here in Atlanta, and I just wanted to call and urge you to vote against any budget that would fund ICE. I will be awaiting a response from you, and I look forward to seeing you out in the streets with the rest of us speaking out against the insanity that is taking place in Minnesota, but is surely headed our way too if we don’t stop it now. Thanks for your time!

Went to the Church to read the Akathist to St. Catherine, my wife’s patron saint.
Photo of an Orthodox Church. A view facing toward the front of the Iconostasis. Rejoice, for by your blood you manifestly cried out to Christ your Bridegroom: I flee to the fragrance of your noetic myrrh which has flowed forth, O my
Bridegroom!'
Rejoice, for you retired to splendid mansions, arrayed in bridal vesture, holding a virgin's lamp in your right hand, and your decapitated head in your left;
Rejoice, for your divinely wise prayer was acceptable to God; for those who call upon your name with faith does the Master save from temptations, granting them good health and delivering them from afflictions of soul and body!

Writing about my recent Florida vacation in my next newsletter.
Welcome to the Gulf of Whatever
No, you haven't completely lost your mind. You aren't stuck in a time loop. There is no glitch in the matrix. That really is the 20th Alvin's Island beachwear shop that you have passed in the last 15 minutes while driving down Highway 98 in Walton County, Florida.
Once you finally pass all of the Publix shopping centers, the familiar chain restaurants heroically poised amidst the vast expanse of an endless sea of asphalt, the bedraggled strip malls with the same amount of parking spots as the nearby Destin-Fort Walton Beach airport, the myriad of self-storage facilities, the construction equipment, and the multi-million dollar beachfront VRBO's located only a moderately-difficult bike ride away from a trailer park are some of the nicest beaches anywhere in the country, or perhaps even the world.
