Technically speaking, telling a chat bot it’s wrong would count as negative feedback. Does that count as a candidate for a pain response? Knowing customer service, I’m sure it must be.

I saw a headline about making AI feel pain and wait hold on a second, what does that even mean? Pain is a sensory reaction to negative feedback. What sense is being toggled in an AI system? Did they add one? Or is it just a reaction to any negative feedback in general?

There’s a fantasy language translation manga in Jump now, btw lol

Idea: an exploration robot is capable of learning any language given enough exposure to the language. However, they land on a planet where the languages develop and split so fast that they aren’t able to keep up with it.

How would record keeping or writing in general work in a world with universal translators? How would it handle archives with lost languages? And what would happen to the words left behind when the universal translation device is no longer available?

There’s a concept of a world where no languages exist and people are able to communicate feelings and intentions telepathically. But can they truly explain everything to each other when some concepts can only be portrayed through words? Not to mention the lack of record keeping

There’s stories where characters instantly magically learn the native fantasy language as soon as the get there. But would they really be able to speak the language so well? Especially if they differed a lot structurally? Or are they still speaking their own language but with magical translation?

Sci-fi tends to introduce planets with aliens all speaking the same language, which seems unrealistic given that there exists hundreds of human languages currently being spoken. But sci-fi also introduces universal translation. Maybe these alien planets also have hundreds of spoken languages?

Let’s say a Universal Translator existed, as in a device that can perfectly translate what someone says to something you can perfectly understand. How would language develop? Would it continue to develop or will actual group languages disappear and everyone would have their own personal language?
