Avril isn’t just a generic cartoon cat. She’s reserved, aloof and deadpan, but somehow becomes weirdly playful and mischievous around Pete. And the name for this whole ordeal shall be #IronFist 💪

She doesn’t compete for the spotlight. Instead, she makes other characters more interesting by giving them something to bounce off. With Pete, her restraint highlights his theatricality, while he draws out her warmth and humour.

Her archetype is one of The Lady of Shalott: a reclusive character who experiences life mostly through reflections rather than direct contact, and becomes abashed when forced to deal with life’s messiness. Challenges make her pricklier.

Roles that fit her include the eccentric side-character, scholar, “witch,” or Pete’s straight woman. She could be antagonistic, but she’s usually just a stoic intellectual outsider contrasting with her wacky surroundings.

I intentionally kept Avril’s design more modern, imagining her as a later addition to the “Mickey Mouse & Friends” universe, first appearing as a minor character in a ’90s Disney show.

I think announcing that I'm doing Yumetober this year is a good excuse to finally introduce my sona Avril Scratch as well! I made her for self-shipping with #PegLegPete. Sometimes I'll be referring to her as "goofsona" for lack of a better term.

Wow, never thought my Pete's fan phase would lead me to talking to someone from the industry itself... This was very interesting and insightful, thank you! :)

I'd completely forgotten to share this here, but I recently wrote an analysis debunking the "Pete is divorced" theory. 😅 If you're curious why I'm so unconvinced by it (or just enjoy overanalyzing cartoon characters), here's the link! 🖤 #PegLegPete #GoofTroop www.tumblr.com/mindtenant/8...

It's a design decision they kept since the 30s, so it became a longstanding tradition to debate whether he looks more like a bulldog or a hippo...

This is wild because it has all the unsettling energy of a Goya but with Disney characters instead of a witches coven
