My end goal with this is too provide a preview within 2ms, leaning towards 1ms. I want the fully converged scene to be calculated within 100ms so that offline rendering can deliver a high quality result in reasonable time. I strongly believe both targets are achievable :)

I optimized traversal dramatically using compressed BVHs and distributing traversal over parallel workgroups. Placement search is now amortised across 2 frames in a checker pattern, which allows for a dramatic performance gain for basically no quality loss. I still think further gains remain here.

What I posted yesterday only traced direct samples and gathered lighting from secondary bounces only when surfels covered the hit point. Now it automatically places bounce surfels. It is not as fast as direct sampling, but still real-time. It converges very fast and is stable. #Cinebara #TechArt

This is realtime global illumination that I've been working on for #Cinebara, a #VR performance capture engine for producing human-performed films with VR. The GI takes 2-4 ms in this demo. There will also be an offline mode which allows for full convergence before capturing a frame.

I came up with a concept for soft surfaces that are mass-conserving but also entirely parallelizable. This will be used in Cinebara when I implement secondary motion. This is just a mockup of the dynamics in Unity and doesn't handle collision yet.

On a related note: #Fenji v7 will include detailed fur textures for all the existing variants and a detailed toothless texture which serves the purpose of providing a scaled variant The harness will also be available with multiple variants. This one is for interplanetary transport! #Furry #VRChat
