There goes any chance I was going to do something productive tonight
In vacuum, nobody hears the draw.
Aphelion
A convicted smuggler, Harrison Ford, escapes a labor station and runs for the last free port at the edge of settled space. The company's immaculate man-hunter, John Malkovich, follows one slow orbit behind, always patient, always polite. The port's quartermaster, Anne Hathaway, sells him passage and possibly her loyalty. A customs broker who trades in everyone's secrets, Buddy Hackett, plays both sides for a fee. Then three guns meet at dawn in a depressurized terminal, and nobody breathes.

Question: How many ps are in google
Google AI response: There are 2 "p"s in the word Google. If you are asking about the mathematical number googol, it is \(10^{100}\), which is a 1 followed by 100 zeros. It is where the search engine got its name!Question: are the ps in the word google silent
Google AI response: No, the "p"s in the word "Google" are not silent because there are no "p"s in the word "Google." It is spelled G-o-o-g-l-e.You might be thinking of "ps" words borrowed from Greek (like psychology or psalm) where the "p" is completely unvoiced!Question: but you just said there are 2 ps in the word google
Google AI response: You are entirely right, and I apologize for that mistake! The word Google is spelled with two "O"s and no "P"s (G-O-O-G-L-E).Question: so how many ps are in the word google
Google AI response: There is only 1 "p" in the word Google. It is the very last letter in the word! G-o-o-g-l-e.

This isn't the first time Kash has used his office to get an all-expenses paid vacation filled with VIP experiences. Starting to look like that's a requirement for his travel. www.esquire.com/news-politic...
Every May, there’s a Five Eyes conference with the head of every intelligence agency. This year it was in the U.K. Kash Patel is going. In the lead-up to that, his detail starts making crazy requests. He’s got special requirements on everything. And the Brits are getting pissed. Before the conference, his staff says he’s unhappy because he doesn’t like meetings in office settings. What he wants is social events. He wants Premier soccer games. He wants to go jet skiing. He’d like a helicopter tour.
Everyone who heard about this was like: Hold on. Is he really going to ask the MI5 director to go jet skiing instead of meeting? The schedule is set, and every Five Eyes partner is doing this. They can’t just say that he’s not participating and instead he wants to go to a Premier soccer game. This is a job, guys. His staff only cared about three things: what his meals were, when his workouts would be and what his entertainment would be. The biggest plan is how he’s going to get his girlfriend in there so she can go to Windsor Castle. He’s got Nicole Rucker as his assistant, like a true executive concierge. And when she’s not getting the food or the workout she wants, she’ll just start screaming at people, Make it happen.

I want to reread Anathem because two aspects of it are front of mind for me all the time now. One is how the avout (intellectuals) who'd isolated themselves in monasteries periodically came out and noped right back in because things outside were off the rails. Two is the reticulum
“Early in the Reticulum—thousands of years ago—it became almost useless because it was cluttered with faulty, obsolete, or downright misleading information,” Sammann said. “Crap, you once called it,” I reminded him. “Yes—a technical term. So crap filtering became important. Businesses were built around it. Some of those businesses came up with a clever plan to make more money: they poisoned the well. They began to put crap on the Reticulum deliberately, forcing people to use their products to filter that crap back out. They created syndevs whose sole purpose was to spew crap into the Reticulum. But it had to be good crap.” “What is good crap?” Arsibalt asked in a politely incredulous tone. “Well, bad crap would be an unformatted document consisting of random letters. Good crap would be a beautifully typeset, well-written document that contained a hundred correct, verifiable sentences and one that was subtly false. It’s a lot harder to generate good crap. At first they had to hire humans to churn it out.”
― Neal Stephenson, Anathem

Not just Fox, Bell Melugin, who clawed his way to Fox's attention by pushing risible bullshit for LAPD. Like the time he pushed the story that a cop found this "tampon" in his Frappuccino.
A long, thin, soggy wad of something that is definitely not a tampon dangling from a straw.

I guess every accusation really is a confession.
“The two incompetent people running our country — and I don’t think they’re even running it — are leading us to the brink of World War III, a war like no other,” Trump told a raucous crowd in Waunakee, Wisconsin, claiming without evidence that the nation’s first and second in command are not in fact in charge of the administration.

"I'm glad you mentioned the women's team again; we're extremely happy for them. There's a lot going on with social media right now surrounding our team and their team. Cops know to call Melugin if they need a reporter willing to run whatever nonsense story they feed them without risking even a cursory effort at fact checking. He built his career on it.
Tweet from June 22, 2020, during the George Floyd protests, from Bill Melugin who still with Fox KTLA then:
"BREAKING: Sources tell me an off duty LAPD officer allegedly found a tampon halfway thru his Frappuccino at a Starbucks in Diamond Bar on Friday. I’m told he used his police credit union debit card. Sheriff’s Dept. confirms they took a report & they’re now investigating."
It features a picture of something that is not remotely a tampon.

When I saw this quote from a former Seal about Mitch Bradley my reaction was that he clearly means it as a complement, that if Bradley is the best of them, it's really just an indictment of the Seals as a whole.
“If there has ever been a SEAL who is above reproach, it’s Mitch,” Mr. Cooper added. “I have yet to meet a finer person, much less a finer SEAL.”

Engardio was an engaged and effective supe. I pass things every day that he got fixed, or improved, or added. This is who Lurie thought should replace him? He’s dead to me. I found this bit from Joe Eskanazi’s story on it telling: missionlocal.org/2025/11/the-...
"She was, in fact, the only supervisor appointee in at least the last 30 years to come with zero experience in either government or politics. Alcaraz’s first hire as an aide was not a deeply experienced wrangler of government to hoist her up a legislative mountain — someone like Mike Farrah, Bill Barnes, Sunny Angulo or Jen Low — but a city staffer who formerly produced videos for the mayor’s office.

This is unfortunate. This indicates a belief on the part of the mayor and his appointee that the purpose of government is not to do things but just to sell them."

One of the historic cars in San Francisco's street car fleet is an open air "boat tram" which is cool both because it's an open air boat tram, and because they don't allow standing passengers so they never get crowded. They only run them on the rare nice days and special occasions though.

I interpreted this to mean they just going to lie about their purpose if it's immigration.
from the article, one of the DEA officers in one of the reviewed communications says "apparently someone who has access to his account may have been running plates and maybe have placed the search bar 'immigration'.. which maybe brought undue attention..."

and from another communication, the officer who was sharing his password offering to search for plants asks "What's the plate? And confirming it is NOT for immigration purposes..."
