There is precedent for this in data science. Your error rate will be tied to the OCR model and source material. Here’s an explainer: towardsdatascience.com/evaluating-o... you could also use a tool-assisted cross-check, in addition to human spot check

Good grief. This story needs to get out because more people need to know that (a) your friends are giving away your contact info and (b) this is one way that political discourse has been mechanized. Don’t trust social media. (she says, on social media)

This is a really big, not-small, heck of an announcement. I have never in my entire life seen women's sports featured above men's in mainstream broadcasting. HNIC is an institution.

Academics always knew that one potential issue with public-private partnerships, contracts, and self-regulation would be government's dwindling in-house expertise to effectively evaluate and manage private sector behaviour. That theoretical issue feels blindingly, terrifyingly real right now.

Once, I was interviewing a candidate for a job alongside another manager. The manager brought a coffee to the interview. Of course, Starbucks had written her name completely wrong on the cup. Throughout the interview, the candidate referred to the manager by her Starbucks name. It was so awkward.

Also: I am unclear on why they insist "deciding to kill us all" is a marker of intelligence. Like, it's totally possible that a really stupid tool (human or machine) could do harm just by being reckless and unskilled. The "intelligent" = "evil" equation is just floating around unchallenged.

Surprised in general, but not surprised based on the game. I actually thought the team looked ok (despite the online comments), and there were a few really solid plays. Vancouver didn't use their speed or talent, so Montreal's discipline and game plan made them the better team on the day.

As far as I can tell, gun control and AI control policy questions are the same: can tools be evil/dangerous, or only people? is it ok to make a tool that harms if it can also do good? to profit from this risk? should we care about the political influence the companies making these tools wield?

Consumers need basic facts in order to vote with their dollars. Ironically, the only way an actual free market exists here is if government regulations force retailers to label food properly. It’s like some wacky neo-liberal paradox riddle.

Fundraising is a part of nonprofit life. Most organizations need to raise money to fund their work, so building an intentional, thoughtful fundraising program is mission-critical. It can be daunting if you've never done it, which is understanding the cycle and its 7 stages helps.

If we keep going with this format, perhaps we will get to the point where playoffs start on opening day, each team plays the others an equal number of times, and the team with the most wins gets the title. 😜

The finish line at a public running event (half-marathon, 10k) etc is one of the most wholesome places you could find yourself. If you need to believe in humanity again, go hang out at one. See people spending time outside, testing themselves, and loving friends and family cheering them on. Joy.

with the caveat that the best prototypes show others what's in your head, as a communications tool. They don't generate the idea; they just help to reveal and refine what was in your head. Expecting AI to give you an original idea is BS for entitled people reaching beyond their grasp.
