Bitter irony is not dead.
Screenshot of a Walrus article called Google Search is Dying. What Comes Next is Worse. The story links to a substack article, not the magazine. Caption on the substack page that explains why a news magazine has to cross-post its own content to Substack: You can't share stories from thewalrus.ca on Facebook or Instagram because of Meta's response to the Online News Act, but you can share this Substack article there. While you can't see the Pac-Man shaped slice of moon covering the sun in this photo, you CAN see the surreal combination of full shadows (under the trees) and dim lighting. The isn't just under-exposure; it's how it looked to the naked eye. Science is great.
Parc Jarry during the eclipse - there's a brightly shining sun in the sky, full shadows under the trees, but an eerie dim-ness.

Facebook is the worst. Here's an example of the suggested reels I see as a woman - all 100% body-shaming bs disguised as body positive empowerment. I have to login periodically for work or family, but it makes me sad, fast. I'd like to wrap my friends (and myself) in a protective hug.
A screenshot of Facebook reels. The first image asks what Sandra Bullock has done to look better. The second asks how long it takes to see results from weight lifting. The third asks why it's easy to be thin in France.

Mother nature putting on a show today. The chirping birds and ribbeting frogs were out in full force. I spy with my little eye a two-legged tadpole.
Blue sky reflected in a calm lake. Tadpole on a rock in a still lake. The sky is reflected in the surface of the water.

Gosh, this was the most rock ‘n roll I’ve seen in one place at one time in a long time. And the most women I have ever seen on a single stage in my life. And the only time I’ve seen women over 60 featured. Every minute of this show was a balm, from Party Dozen to L7 to Amyl and the Sniffers.

This is too many sports in one photo. Also, I don't like seeing Infantino in the bleu-blanc-rouge. Your pandering will not work on me, sir. I know sports are (often) corrupt. I just prefer not to be reminded so I can enjoy the sports bit. This brand-clash is not helping.

Spring is finally here. Flowers, bright and lovely-smelling, signal to insects and birds that it’s safe to return for the season. They look so fragile, but they are actually brave leaders who light the way for others. I love them for that.

Google picked an odd way to celebrate Earth Day: Check it out! We're shoving more AI into places you didn't want it! If only there was some kind of tool they could have used to verify that my account has AI enabled before sending this update ...
Screenshot from an email from Google Workspace reading as follows:

Dear administrator,

You’re receiving this communication because we’re introducing Workspace Intelligence. Workspace Intelligence is an underlying AI system that provides Gemini with a real-time understanding of your work across Google Workspace.

With Workspace Intelligence, all of your generative AI tasks within Workspace will be grounded in your Workspace data across Gmail, Chat, Calendar, and Drive, eliminating the need for users to manually provide context to Gemini on every query.

Project Hail Mary was such a fun, heartwarming, science-filled joy to watch. I couldn't figure out how someone would make the book work on film, and I'm so glad they cracked it. Some people in the packed theatre booed the Amazon logo at the start. Huge round of applause at the end.
