Paul A J Lewis @krycekfacility.bsky.social · 25/09/2026#LarryCohen's IT'S ALIVE (1974) is a film I slept on when I first saw it as a teenager. Means so much more to me as a middle-aged parent. John P Ryan's performance as the mutant baby's father is *layered.* Such an awesome film w/a great Bernard Hermann score too. 040
Paul A J Lewis @krycekfacility.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Revisiting Bruce Malmuth's NIGHTHAWKS (1981) for the first time in c.25 years, + I'm struck by (a) how good it is, + (b) that Jamie Gillis is in it. Music substitutions and cuts have kept me away from various DVD/BD releases so far, but I recently bought the Shout Select disc. 'Tis good. 031
Paul A J Lewis @krycekfacility.bsky.social · 23/08/2026The presentation of SAVAGE on @arrowplayer.bsky.social is quite handsome, widescreen and in HD. MARS is my fave of the two. Rewatching both of these has made me realise that I'd love to see a Blu-ray collection of Gruner's action films. End/ 000
Paul A J Lewis @krycekfacility.bsky.social · 23/08/2026SAVAGE (Avi Nesher, 1996) is less accomplished (IMO) but still a fun ride. Another evil corpo plot (Titan, which makes VR games) has some echoes of ROBOCOP, though Gruner's interplay w/Jennifer Grant recalls Van Damme & Yancy Butler in HARD TARGET 4/ 120
Paul A J Lewis @krycekfacility.bsky.social · 23/08/2026The presentation of MARS on the @arrowplayer.bsky.social is in rough condition, in SD, and full-frame, but it was a pleasure to revisit this one. 3/ 100
Paul A J Lewis @krycekfacility.bsky.social · 23/08/2026MARS (Jon Hess, 1997) is clearly aiming for a pastiche of #Verhoeven's TOTAL RECALL (w/some of OUTLAND thrown in) but feels very much in the spirit of #RobertHeinlein rather than #PKD. Evil corporations colonising MARS? Revenge plot? I'm in! 2/ 100
Paul A J Lewis @krycekfacility.bsky.social · 23/08/2026Really enjoyed the two #OlivierGruner films that have popped up on @arrowplayer.bsky.social recently, Jon Hess' MARS (1997) and Avi Nesher's SAVAGE (1996). Two blasts from the past that I had almost forgotten about. 1/ 110
Paul A J Lewis @krycekfacility.bsky.social · 21/08/2026This one made a big impression on me when I read it as a teenager. I still have my old paperback copy of it. It's a shame he withdrew it from circulation as it's insightful and well-written (IMO). 110
Paul A J Lewis @krycekfacility.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Didn't the first MAFIA game have a similar mechanic when it was released in the early 2000s? (Though if I recall correctly, you could turn this mode on or off.) 100
Paul A J Lewis @krycekfacility.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Here, I’ve put the vintage #Fendograph pen next to a very similar modern art deco-style pen, the #Kaweco Brass Sport. This is a very good, sturdy pen that is a solid (pun intended) alternative for anyone looking for a similar aesthetic in a modern pen. End/ 021
Paul A J Lewis @krycekfacility.bsky.social · 20/08/2026I’m not sure if the pen in Inferno is a button filler or a safety pen, though it seems to have a similar "blind cap" at the end of the barrel to my pen, which may suggest it's a button filler. 3/ 101
Paul A J Lewis @krycekfacility.bsky.social · 20/08/2026I’ve finally tracked down a near-identical pen. It’s a #Fendograph with an Italian overlay (in 18 karat gold), most likely from Milan. My pen has a Greek key pattern and is a button filler rather than a safety pen (with a retractable nib), which I believe dates it to the 1930s 2/ 101
Paul A J Lewis @krycekfacility.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Film and Fountain Pen Nerd Alert. INFERNO is one of my fave #DarioArgento films, and when I first watched the film in the 1980s I remember being struck by the vintage #FountainPen Rose (Irene Miracle) uses in the opening sequence. 1/ 121

Paul A J Lewis @krycekfacility.bsky.social · 24/06/2026Rewatching #DavidCronenberg's CRASH (1996), I'm struck by the memory that when I saw this at the cinema, 30 years ago, I was good friends at university with a young woman who had bad facial scarring from a car accident that also killed her father. Strange what lingers in memory. 130
