In September 2024, a young African penguin arrived at a rehabilitation center in Mossel Bay, South Africa. He was hungry, visibly underweight, stuck in an arrested molt and sunburnt. They named him Rocky. When warmer waters push fish past where penguins can reach them, more birds end up like him.

In July, 2026 Disci and Domi welcomed two chicks, Fletcher and his sister Pamela. Look at Fletcher now! African penguins born in a zoo stay there. African penguins born at our partner sanctuaries are released to a colony in the wild where they mate and can produce at least 45 more pengins.
