I'm not kidding when this show could only be popular with families, because that's the main way a target audience could be disconnected enough from it all to even watch it on its own merits. Others might watch. But the experience is still tainted. Enjoyment has to be tied to guilt or rage.

And what a miserable fate that is for any piece of art. There is no separating it, the mold has grown terminal. Even if the show ends up good somehow and centrists decide to praise it in reviews, that praise will be overshadowed by bigots and weirdos making that person's review about trans people.

Look at any reddit thread about news for the HBO show. Without fail, there'll be a comment from someone addressing Joanne's sins. Yeah, in many of these cases, it gets downvoted to the bottom, sorted by controversial. But even the positive half has someone saying something too.
