Why Refugee Resettlement Matters to America’s Future

This determination is a choice, and choices can be unmade. Congress can act, and this country can still decide to reclaim its role as a beacon of hope for the world’s most vulnerable.

Preparedness, resilience, and recovery are some of the most effective tools we have, yet the U.S. is retreating from these investments. Read more about how this is a reversal of the role the U.S. has played for decades, and how it comes at the exact moment climate risk is accelerating.

Our success has always been powered by people willing to work hard, contribute, and build a better future. On Labor Day, let's recognize the immigrants who fill critical roles in every sector and help make America stronger every day.

Labor Day isn’t just a day off. It’s a celebration of the workers, unions, and movements that built the eight-hour workday, safer job sites, and the dignity of a fair wage. That history of people organizing and showing up for one another is the same spirit that has always driven America's progress.

President Trump’s rhetoric about immigration is not matching up with how policy is playing out in the courts. According to an analysis by Politico, the administration has lost more than 10,000 cases in federal district courts, an overwhelming rebuke by judges of ICE’s practices and due process breaches. “The administration wants the narrative to line up with their campaign rhetoric but it doesn’t line up with reality,” Krish O’Mara Vignarajah, President and CEO of Global Refuge, tells Ali Velshi.
