The term "sexual harassment" was coined in 1975 at Cornell University. Activists Lin Farley, Susan Meyer, and Karen Sauvigné created the phrase to describe systemic workplace abuse after administrative assistant Carmita Wood was denied unemployment following her resignation over unwanted advances.
