We can’t. In Iowa, Josh Turek waited til the night of the primary to start spewing transphobia (a massive act of cowardice) and Rob Sand (who ran unopposed, no primary) has outright refused to acknowledge the LGBTQ+ community this campaign.

I really don’t want to have to defend Rob Sand but as a Hawkeyes fan I know multiple people who ran into him and met him at tailgates for that game. Benny’s flat out lying.

This one really hurt, since I had already ruled out Turek and Sand over their transphobia and held out hope that maybe she’d be different since she was the only one of the three to simply acknowledge the mere existence of Pride month, but sure enough she’s more of the same.

I’m from his state and I already know multiple people who have outright said they will not vote for him due to statements like these, which he cowardly waited until the night of the primary to start making.

The point of the discussion is that all of this still happens if we elect people weak enough to allow right wingers to carry out this targeting of vulnerable groups, and thus there is no better alternative for them.
