I found out that there's a trick to get the Gravity Suit really early in Super Metroid. It's pretty hard and you have to defeat Phantoon without saving, but also really nice to get down

I also took on Castlevania 1, which is a joke in comparison. I did make things a bit harder for myself by screwing up the Death holy water stun, so I ended up fighting him with the crosses for the first time. Got lucky with an upgrade drop and barely got through with them
Screenshot of Castlevania for the NES. Simon Belmont, a warrior clad in a lightweight set of armor, stands near the center of the screen on top of a platform. The scene is in profile, and a floating sickle can be seen to the left of Simon. The HUD at the tops shows the cross as the current sub-weapon, at level 2.

Beat Castlevania III with solo Trevor again since the Anniversary Collection is on sale. Still my favorite NES game and I'm very glad I've stuck with the NES version. The extra challenge on NES over Famicom makes it so much more fun on repeat playthroughs
Castlevania 3 screenshot. Trevor Belmont, a long-haired figure in a gold cape, watches from a vantage point as Dracula's castle crumbles far in the distance across a lake. There is a gold-orange sunrise and mountains can be seen in the background

Here's the full recording. You can see me struggle with the input latency while I'm trying to get out of Norfair. I really ought to get a composite video splitter

This early Super Missile pickup in Metroid Zero Mission is really cool to get. When I went back to record it, I ended up getting it on my first try despite my DVD recorder's terrible latency

Since the original texture sheet does not include textures for looking left/right/down or for blinking, I made my own in GIMP. The setup I have means I could put this model in Wind Waker in the future
Screenshot of GIMP, an image-manipulation program. The canvas shows a texture sheet for a cat with four expressions: neutral, surprised, serious, and happy. Each face is cartoonish, and the images are bisected to save spaceScreenshot of GIMP, an image manipulation program. The canvas shows a drawing of cat eyes, half-open. The eyes are set against a solid-color dark background, and further variations of these eyes are shown at the right, in the image layers.

The models and textures are mostly ripped from Streetpass Mii Plaza on the 3DS. I used the LZ77 Batch tool to decompress them, and Switch Toolbox to get the models and textures themselves

High-res textures are included (and shown here prominently), though you can switch back to low-res with the tab key (works best in N64 mode)
Comparison of three Ocarina of Time screenshots. Each shows a black cat looking at the viewer. Models made in Blender, textures made in GIMP. I based these models on the older slugcat design, which means they have the same odd feet and legs, as well as a few ambiguous scar-like markings. I wanted to go all-in on that with the same shading, but that doesn't work well...

Also, there are multiple versions of a few slugcats: INV has three variations, Artificer has two variations, and you could argue that nightcat/watcher/INV being separate entities would make them variations of the same slugcat
Comparison picture. Three screenshots show INV from Rain World staring at the camera to some extent. The top left picture has their eyes set up as small, slightly flat ovals, similarly to a regular slugcat. The top right picture shows them with somewhat realistic, green eyes akin to their "blushing" sprite. The bottom picture shows them with those same realistic eye, only half-closed and with a bright pink blush accompanying them.Comparison picture. Shown are two screenshots of Artificer from Rain World. They are a deep red slugcat with white eyes holding an explosive spear in the left screenshot, and one of their eyes is terribly scarred and burned and they are holding Ocarina of Time's Master Sword in the right screenshot.

As with the Wind Waker mod, only INV and Rivulet can show expressions/eye movement very well, as they have distinct pupils

Of course, there are also the infinite games that come standard with owning an EverDrive. I ended up getting the Mini over the Pro since most of the outlier gimmick games, such as Boktai, have patches to use regular controls

It really is weird to have these awful sprites I made showing on a real, AGS-101 screen. It's surprising how good they can look just by being on a real LCD on a real GBA. There's an odd depth to the visual that's hard to describe

Lastly, there are GBAVideo files. As long as you use the "gbafix.exe" file included with many versions of METEO, you can do almost anything. I would put in a Mike Oldfield music video or something, but I think my followers would prefer this small teaser

Then, I have a couple games that are multiplayer, but with only one real cartridge. Now, I can demo the two-player multiplayer. Obviously, this is probably not a primary reason to get an Everdrive, but it's still cool

Got an EverDrive GBA. Got an EverDrive GBA. I already love it. There's a lot you can do with one of these things. For starters, there are ROMHacks, like this one from way back (likely to be loud due to noise):

Learned the Blender Python API just to automate this. It works pretty much like how zzconvert does. It feels very nice to be free from the "really, really, really fun, tedious" OOT hand replacement process using my own solution. This will save me and hopefully other SoH/decomp modders a lot of time

My issue was that my flipbook was not set up as individual, which allows for texture names to be assigned to individual textures. Though that worked, the textures ended up being voided entirely. Another trip to the SoH discord later, and I foundthat I had my texture format setup incorrectly
Blender interface screenshot. Shown is Fast64's flipbook editor, which shows a column of boxes. Each box contains a "Texture Name" input, followed by an image select with a filename inside, and a "visualize" button. Each texture name is formatted "gLinkAdultEyesXXXTex".Blender interface screenshot. The focus of the image is on a Fast3D texture. It is set with a texture reference of 0x08000000, an image size of 64 by 32, and a Format of "RGBA 16-bit". Below that information are checkboxes; "Clamp S" and "Clamp T" are selected.

Alright; I've learned a lot in the past few days. Unfortunately, there's no luck on getting the real N64 OOT to work, but I have figured out SoH's rules for flipbook textures. This means that face animation is finally possible and I pretty much have no model limitations when it comes to the PC Port
Five Pebbles, a pink stick figure-like character dressed in a large orange tunic and black earphone-like antennae, visibly winces as a keese, a bat-like creature, hits him in an Ocarina of Time mod. It's just as I thought: the hands holding the items are all their own unique models, though luckily I don't have to manually import them from the decomp for SoH this time. Bad news is that there are now two separate workflows for the same game

Learning to get custom player models working on the N64 OOT. I remember it being a lot more complicated, but I've successfully got the test Marth model working. Should be just a few adjustments to get any low-poly model I like over Link

Using my newfound DVD-R powers, I can use FreeDVDBoot to run homebrew applications, which includes Memory Card Annihilator to read/write to memory cards. Since the PS2 can read and write PS1 cards, I was able to install an exploit on one and can now run burned PS1 discs

That "WiiMC" channel enables this thing to play DVDs, which didn't end up happening officially for a few reasons. My burned DVDs are all +RWs, so they don't work, but an old Resident Evil CODE: Veronica promo disc does

Beat the original Apple II Prince of Persia. It's a very good game, though the timer is very stressful. Level 8 lost me like 10 minutes because I kept dying right at the end (and at various other places in it). It took me three attempts to do right, but it was well worth it
