Apple: other foldables' screen aspect ratios are awkward because "movies are boxed in by oversized black bars” A few minutes later:

You mean the macOS Touch ID & Password settings, right? I just checked and to my surpise it worked! Because the other options allow me to skip my PW and use Touch ID instead. I'd expect 'Use Touch ID for autofilling passwords' to be the equivalent: that it would require me to type in my system PW

If you reset it to 'default' position, western Europe is right at the point where it's least distorted, so maybe US representatives to the United Nations can admit it's not actually woke:

Maybe I'm misunderstanding Bluesky's CEO, but he made it sound like that in the end there's a centralized identity server that they currently control. They can put it into a 'Swiss nonprofit', but that doesn't make it less centralized. www.theverge.com/podcast/9743...
Screenshot of podcast transcript: "A big part of that, too, is that – this gets a little nerdy into the whole stack and the protocol – when people look at the design of this network and they like to find out, is it truly decentralized or not? There is one thing at the heart of it that absolutely no company should control, and that’s the identity directory, the lookup. When you log in your identity in the ATmosphere, where does that lookup actually happen? It’s like DNS on the web when somebody looks up a URL. We have been running that core directory, and we’re actually in the process of setting up a Swiss nonprofit with a separate board, a completely separate entity, to which we’ve handed over that directory. We’re in the process of handing over the domain to it. So that’s one example."

Americans are scoffing at Europeans again for not installing air conditioning. Do they even know these things consume loads of energy? We need to do something about the climate. We must drastically lower emissions, especially in the US. We also need to adapt.
Chart with CO₂ emissions per capita for the US, EU and the World. Where the EU is close to the world's average of 5 Tonnes, the average American emits 15 Tonnes.

Last weekend I wrote Proton to say that I don't like them sponsoring a fascist, racist YouTuber. I wrote that I expected them to denounce that ideology. I just wanted to hear from them, that I can feel okay paying them as a customer. Shouldn't be too hard to denounce some racist jackass, right?
Screenshot of email: This is a follow-up message. I apologize for not being able to respond sooner.

You're right to raise this, and we want to address it directly and provide you important context on how this happened.

Vincent Lapierre's channel should never have been part of our affiliate and sponsorship program, because we intentionally avoid association with channels whose content could distract from our message and divide our community.

Proton operates globally, and while our services are available to everyone regardless of political views and our mission is consistent everywhere, our knowledge of every local media landscape is not. In this case, our team didn't have enough context about the French space to make a well-informed decision, and that's on us.

We also want to be straight about what a placement like this is and isn't. An affiliate or sponsorship arrangement is a transactional placement for awareness, not an endorsement of a creator's views. In the case of Vincent Lapierre, this was a single video sponsorship, not a partnership.

But that distinction doesn't excuse what happened here. The responsibility to vet who we put our name next to is ours, and we didn't meet it this time. We're now reviewing our vetting process and our guidelines for our marketing agencies to ensure this doesn't happen again.

If you see something like this again, tell us. We rely on your feedback and vigilance.

I’m at re:publica today! Let me know if you are too! #rp36 #republica #berlin

I made one and found that the CSS gets quite complicated if: - You have separate HTML for the horizontal and hamburger styled situation - Have submenus in the nav It worked out in the end, but I hope there are ways to do a simpler implementation than I did:

That save the environment by archiving your e-mails kerfuffle reminded me that ForTomorrow has a post on the climate impact of e-mail. I've updated it to make clear that your effort is better spent elsewhere. www.fortomorrow.eu/en/blog/carb...
Screenshot of the conclusion, starting with: Can you protect the climate by cleaning up your inbox?

Before you spend a lot of time cleaning up your inbox, it is important to know that the majority of email traffic is business-related. Marketing and IT companies in particular, as well as email service providers, have much more leverage here - and therefore more responsibility.

Of course, we don’t want to discourage you from cleaning up your emails. But for your personal climate impact, there certainly are areas where you can achieve more with less effort.

So apparently Codeberg is not the place to move my personal website's repo to.
Screennhot of a red alert box saying "Your private repo uses up an insanely large amount of disk storage, while all content should ideally be public and licensed under an OSI- or FSF-approved Free Software licence. Please refer to our ToS and the FAQ about software licenses and private repositories
Thank you for considering to release this repo to the public or reducing your required disk space for this repo."

Hey people with websites: I noticed that the URL inspector of the Google Search Console rather consistently claims a 'URL is not on Google', while anyone can actually find it using Google Search. Why?! #seo #google #webadmin #webmaster

Google Zero seems to be real. Google is still the biggest referrer to my blog, but it seems to do its best to become less relevant. I understand that many people feel it's convenient to see answers to their questions as an AI-generated summary above the search results. #seo #google

Be careful if you're still using VS Code. The latest update changed the settings for Copilot, so if you disabled Copilot Autocomplete before, it will be turned on again. It 'autocompleted' a change in a CSS class list by duplicating a bunch of lines that followed it. I almost deployed the mistake

USP number 1: "Design responsively with breakpoints" But I thought we were all doing flex and grid layouts now? Media queries a.k.a. breakpoints are a last resort every designer and developer should avoid. Web design is fluid. Always has been. Even before 'responsive' was a thing.

If you're using adplist.org for mentoring sessions and care about your #privacy, I recommend you do the calls via another platform. They've rolled out a note-taking system that records everything said in your sessions.

I'm trying to style a <meter> (that's a progress bar, kind of). It requires the non-standard, browser-specific selector mess you probably know from <input type="range">. So I'm thinking, maybe I should just make the <meter> hidden but accessible and recreate the thing with two <div>s.
A very ugly looking meter (progress bar) under a heading saying "Ziel: 10 000 € für den Klimaschutz"

It's a shame I'm not employed by Google, because every time I do a remote user testing session, I discover new usability issues with Google Meet. #usertesting #usability #googlemeet #teams
A Google Meet window showing a blurred out participant, myself and a screen being shared. On the screen, there's little more than the sentence "You are sharing your entire screen."
