Here is a handout I made for my kid’s class last week, when I went in to talk to them about making books. I Frankensteined together a bunch of art I already had to make it, and filled other stuff in. But it was a big hit, so I’m sharing it here in case you know any kids interested in making books!

Let’s make books handout for kids, detailing various roles in making books; author, illustrator, editor, designer, marketing/publicity, librarians/booksellers/teachers and finally readers.

Two worksheets, “be a writer” with a writing mad lib, and “be an illustrator” with some drawing prompts.

Two more worksheets, “be an editor” with editorial marks to practice on some editable sentences, and “be a cover designer” with four books needing covers.

Two final handouts: “be a librarian, bookseller or teacher” with six kids and six books to match, and “be a reader” with preferences in genre and types of books to narrow your reading preferences to help find more books to enjoy.

Deeply concerning news about our friend and former BF teammate Rebecca Burke whose backpacking trip to the US has ended with her being detained by ICE for over ten days, with no clear timeline for her release. Please read her father's statement here: www.facebook.com/paulrburke

Holy shit… This was shared to someone working on protests in Colorado. 😱 #nationalparks

Screenshot of an email that reads:

“Date: March 7, 2025
Subject: Washington DC Trip Report

“Hello Friends:
What a week in DC to meet with Trump Administration officials and House Committee on National Resources staff and in Utah to work on the Project Wild Utah campaign… Utah is ground zero for proposed elimination of national parks and national monuments.

“Meetings with Secretary of the Interior’s staff yielded info regarding the canceling of a groundbreaking mountain lion research project in the Santa Monica Mtns, new uranium mine proposal in Lake Casitas Watershed, new logging in Los Padres NF and increase in drilling next to Sespe Condor Sanctuary. The President and Secretary of the Interior have signed orders to allow new bids for new oil and gas drilling platforms in federal waters of the Santa Barbara Channel WITHOUT environmental review or public participation… first lease sale will be this Spring.

“Next month The President will sign executive orders downsizing or eliminating a number of national monuments across the west including the Carrico Plain NM in eastern San Luis Obispo county.

“The two national marine sanctuaries offshore of California’s Central coast, Channel Islands NMS, and Chumash heritage NMS will receive zero funds in the coming fiscal year.

“Proposed elimination of urban national parks such as the Santa Monica Mtns National Recreation Area was discussed with the Acting Director of National Park Service.

“Lots of upcoming plans to close various national parks, national monuments, national forest, and national wildlife refuges across the west.

“We have a whole lot of challenges ahead of us, we need to organize, engage, stand up, and speak out.
“Let’s all speak truth to power in DC, let those in power know that people across our nation are not going to accept the Trump/Musk vision for our national public lands and waters stand.”

Here’s a brochure version you can freely download, print, and distribute physically: www.canva.com/design/DAGdx... Supposedly the work around to the printer tracking is using a 100% black and white printer, but I’m not completely sure.

Brochure version is available in my Instagram Story highlight titled ‘RESIST’. Free to download, print, and distribute. WARNING. Numerous brands of color laser printers — at the urging of the US gov — leave coded metadata in barely perceptible yellow dots tat can be used to trace a printed document to its source, a feature originally intended as a deterrent to counterfeiting currency with laser printers.

Hi all! I’m Kels Choo, an artist in CO who makes comics, zines, & other art! 🤙 I also organize Pikes Peak Zine Fest. Website: kelschoo.com IG/FB/Tumblr: @kookookchoo

Graphic illustration in pastel colors of Kels (an Asian fem presenting person with short hair in glasses, bunny slippers, & bear onesie) holding a tablet in their lap sitting on floor among art supplies below bubble text. Big pink bubble letters above read “Hey!” and pink printed text next to that read: “I’m Kels Choo! (aka kookookchoo). I self-publish comics & make art!”

Graphic illustration of Kels (an Asian fem presenting person with short hair & shoulder bag in glasses, t-shirt, shorts, & slippers) holding sketchbook standing next to text. Big pink bubble letters above read “About”. Below the bubble lettering are a couple of lines of about info text with little stars between: “33,” “INFP,” “She/They,” “Neuro spicy,” “Colorado, USA”. In the next row, are icons representing Aries, Year of the Ram, a nonbinary flag, and a Demi-Pan flag. Under the about info are two columns of likes/dislikes represented by a happy & frowny face. Likes: magic & mythology, spoopy vibes, plants & animals, popcorn, milk, & Animal Crossing. Dislikes: rude ppl, celery, too much spicy, shouting, scary movies, & reading digitally.

Graphic illustration in pastel colors describing Kels’ background. Pink text with highlighted bigger bubble letters (in caps) reads: “I’m originally from HAWAI‘I (Japanese, Korean, & Okinawan. NOT Hawaiian). My family has been there since plantation days.” A little arrow points to the main Hawaiian islands & a hibiscus flower. Below is the Chicago skyline with the Chicago flag over it with text in pink: “I went to art school in CHICAGO and lived there for 8 years. Learned about self-publishing & zines while there.” Under that is Colorado state with the Rockies and an arrow pointing to a star on the map where Colorado Springs is. Next to that, pink text reads: “Now I live in COLORADO SPRINGS! Moved here summer of 2017.”

Graphic illustration of Kels (an Asian fem presenting person with short hair in a bun wearing glasses, high-neck tank top, & shorts) sitting on the floor next to her partner, Em (a white woman with short wavy brown hair, glasses, in a color block blouse & jeans), and their 3 pets each labeled with pink text. The pets are a chinchilla that sits on Kels’ elbow on the left “Stitch (chinchilla)”, a medium black & white husky looking dog sitting in front of Kels “Gypsy (Alaskan Klee Kai & Shiba Inu)”, and another small white & black husky looking dog in Em’s lap “Laika (Pomsky)”. Above, pink bubble letters surrounded by little sparkles reads: “My lil’ family”. Below is pink printed text: “I live with my wife (Ember), & our 3 fur babies!”
