You also need to have cactus/succulent soil. You can get that at any hardware or plant store. Mine live outside in on the shaded porch most of year here in Texas. I do take them in if it is near or below freezing.

They make little pups, which are new plants, in the same pot. I have found that some of the aloe I repot will reproduce and some will not. Make sure you are letting soil completely dry out before you water it again and then give it a good soak. Yoi also want to make sure the pot has drainage.
