Effectively, their use of AI has killed their brand recognition. And maybe I'm the only one who cares. But I feel like it's going to seep through other people. They'll wonder why we don't trust them with our kids. Maybe it's because we lost any sense of who you are and which one of you is which?

We talk about the harm of AI a lot... and I just wanted to point out that even if there's no ethical dilemma, there's still harm. At this point I can't differentiate between any clubs in my time. I used to open Facebook and know exactly who was hosting an event by the flier. Now I have no clue.

I just read >dear stupid penpal by rascal hartley this weekend. It was so unexpectedly delightful. Like... existential dread and and an examination of time and life and love, sure, but also... heartwarming squee. Loved it.

Scrivener no longer an option because I've lost too much work on it by moving devices and forgetting to do the save and close and reopen. Proton and Notion are hard to format for subs. I assume ellipses is similar?

I keep trying other programs, but I've yet to find something I like the feel of. Mostly I want something online so I can move between devices seamlessly but not based on markdown language so I can easily format it for submissions.

AI sucks. Gdocs used to have a really useful grammar check... it often caught when I used the wrong word or misspelled something. Now, every three sentences it is suggesting I use past tense. I write 90% of my stories in present tense. It is becoming more of a hinderance than a tool.

Writing is exploration and discovery. Publishing is curation. It is presentation. It is a decision. I don't want to owe the world the pain beneath my presentation.

I do NOT want my unfinished discovery out in the world. I don't want the editors I work with to know the darker explorations that create my work. I don't want a leak that has my personal history in it. I don't want to be taken out of context and judged by the way I process my experiences.

They're messy. Raw. Too honest to share, and not always what I ultimately think/feel about a subject. They are discovery. They are me learning how to feel about and express sometimes difficult topics like self-harm, csa, parenting (yes, I include that because it is contested and personal and messy).

It's a rush. Even if it means going back and editing the novel for the tenth or twentieth time. I've got the drafts. But it's because I'm a discovery writer that I don't think I would be comfortable submitting my early drafts to prove I don't use AI.

I'm a discovery writer. I might have some idea of plot, but my final product will look nothing like that "outline". My joy in writing comes from the discovery -- of the story, yes, but also of myself. I love those moments when I make a connection between two events in my past or two concepts.

Returned from vacation... my sister-in-law had bought the trees I asked for and they were loaded in our car for the trip home... but our luggage wouldn't fit with them... so I got to cuddle a pomegranate yearling for three hours on the ride home. The things authors do for our writing.
