Built my own router yesterday after my ASUS router declared its intention to spy on me after an update. I'm still using the ASUS router as a wireless access point, but blocked its ability to communicate outside on the new firewall. This fucker tried to phone home more than 300 times while I slept.

100% agree with this, but I'll add a caveat: That person who I don't want to fuck needs to not be a sex pest. It goes both ways. I have plenty of friends that I have no sexual interest in. However, a lot of people dry beg after it's been made clear that I'm not reciprocating, and it's not cute.

Just a casual Sunday night setting up a Pangolin reverse proxy on a Lightsail VPS so I can decommission my Cloudflare tunnel while maintaining zero trust network security and not needing to enable port forwarding on my home network. Ya know, simple. What is wrong with me, that I do this for fun?

The backup scheme is officially complete. Nightly backups of my system to the 10TB HDD and an AWS S3 standard bucket, with monthly backups of my 500 GB photo library going to a separate AWS S3 Glacier Deep Archive bucket. Total cost for this storage? About 50 cents a month.

Setting up nightly backups for my server has been surprisingly fun. Designing and coordinating the various sources, types, schedules, locations, and encryption was cathartic. Taking ownership of my data again instead of paying someone else a fortune to manage it has been liberating.

I am so frustrated with the lack of planning and communication at work that I am on the verge of tears. I'm expected to test all of our data in four days and my team keeps pushing changes to the code WHILE I AM TESTING and then NOT TELLING ME. Only when I find major problems do they tell me.

Microsoft is now playing games with your disks to make it so that you can't shrink your primary Windows partition to install Linux. No problem, if you're gonna be like that I'll just install Linux to my other drive, transfer the files, and nuke the Windows partition altogether.

Your smart TVs are spying on you. The amount of data they're constantly sending to third parties is shocking. That spike in the graph at the beginning? That's how much traffic my smart TV was generating before I blocked it from my network, nearly as much as the rest of my devices COMBINED.

Got a STUN/TURN server setup last night so I can do video/voice calls via Nextcloud. Bf and I played games while chatting on it for three hours and it went pretty well! The home lab is nearly complete! Just need to add a backup solution to the mix and it'll be perfect.
