This was always always always where it was going. They put on the thinnest veneer to hide their true intentions, and the media and leaders are too afraid to call it what it is. And then once it's too late they say what they really mean. And even then, it's not taken seriously.

Martin Lewis, 'Street booth in Tokyo, New Year's Eve' (1927)
According to https://www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/collection/works/271.2007/#about, 'Street booth, Tokyo, New Year's Eve' is the largest of Lewis' Japanese prints and shows shimenawa, knotted straw ropes blessed and purified by Shinto priests to commemorate the new year. There are stars visible in the nocturnal sky and more than a dozen people are standing or walking below a wooden construction (a shrine?) with the shimenawa.

'Caab' (illustration in: Petrus Candidus Decembrius, "De animantium naturis", circa 1515)
a hairless animal with characteristics of a seal, a cloven-hoofed animal and an elephant, among others

According to Hana Šedinová (cited by https://bestiary.ca/beasts/beast107514.htm), the "caab" as a marine monster is the result of a misinterpretation by Thomas of Cantimpré of the text from Aristotle, as translated from Arabic to Latin by Michael Scot (1220 CE). Thomas thought the word cahab referred to a marine animal. It is actually a transliteration of an Arabic word for 'ankle' in Aristotle's description of the elephant. This misunderstanding led to Thomas's creation of the caab, a fish with attributes of the elephant [Sedinova, page 65-66].

You can see most of the adaptations camels have for desert endurance: humps store fat, eyelashes protect eyes from sand, long guts absorb water, broad footpad for sand travel. But inside a camel's blood are adaptation you *haven't* seen. (...unless you collect camel blood.)
