I think it's highly disrespectful to teen readers & librarians/teachers fighting book bans when authors & publishers publish "crossover" YA books, then recategorize them to double dip from the adult market.

Did any other library people notice Macmillan & HarperCollins just hiked up their audiobook prices? Macmillan's almost doubled (from $50ish to $90-100ish), and Harper's are now up to $130. Note: these are YA prices. Adults are always more expensive.

Curious who these publishers are who told SARAH DESSEN to try writing ROMANTASY. That feels so disrespectful to me.

From a publisher's weekly article: and the next two projects were canceled. Meanwhile, the YA book market had changed, Dessen said. Romantasy and fantasy were on the rise and contemporary wasn’t selling. Several publishers turned down her next projects. More than one advisor suggested she try writing a romantasy novel. But it just isn’t who she is as a writer, she said. “Part of having a long career is knowing what you do and focusing on that. You have stay true to yourself, especially when it comes to writing,” she told PW. Dessen never stopped writing novels, she just stopped selling them for several years. “It was really frustrating and demoralizing,” she said.

Does anyone know if Random House shuttered their Underlined paperback imprint? It is very hard to find information because Underlined is also their publicity group's name. This is like Macmillan formerly having an imprint named... Imprint.

PRH having a slew of layoffs just months after S&S did theirs is just so disheartening. It’s hard not to feel jaded. I feel so bad for all my editorial colleagues and for the fact that Dial BYFR has been completely shuttered. We need books. Children need books. And those editors deserved better.

There's a YA book coming out in a month with a 21 year old love interest. AUTHORS & PUBLISHERS: YOU CANNOT KEEP DOING THIS. Are you aware these headhunters are looking for any opportunity, any excuse to ban books? YOU CANNOT HAVE A LOVE INTEREST IN THEIR 20s IN A BOOK FOR TEENS.

I don't like book bans, and I don't like censorship, but I genuinely cannot stand that mainstream booktok is uncritically recommending books so that a 10 year old wants to read Icebreaker. That's just not developmentally appropriate reading for elementary schoolers.

For the newbies, one of the great features on here is that when someone has tried to quote-post dunk on you, hit the … and select “detach quote” and nobody will see the post or who wrote it and they will look like an asshole. (Blocking works like this too.)

Libraries buy books! We buy a lot of books (even though bookscan doesn't count those sales). People find new authors at the library and buy their books later. Everyone wins and authors make money.
